Publisher's summary

Book one in the blockbuster Maze Runner series that spawned a movie franchise and ushered in a worldwide phenomenon! And don’t miss The Fever Code, the highly-anticipated series conclusion that finally reveals the story of how the maze was built! When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers - boys whose memories are also gone.

Outside the towering stone walls that surround them is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out - and no one’s ever made it through alive. Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying: Remember. Survive. Run.

The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure all are now major motion pictures featuring the star of MTV's Teen Wolf, Dylan O’Brien; Kaya Scodelario; Aml Ameen; Will Poulter; and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

Very Enjoyable book even though it is YA

I like dystopian novels. This one was a great start to a series. I am curious as to where the next book might lead to. But this first book was extremely well written. I listened to the whole book in two sittings. Very exciting and not many, but enough stops to take a breath. Unwinding a tale for someone that is totally clueless as to what is going on. Great way to start a book.

Kind of a let-down

I think my expectations for this book were too high. It was a great idea. The lingo was way too juvenile "shuck, clunk, etc". It was as if they were inserting profanity through the whole think and it got way old. It moved too slow for me, also.

Run!

What made the experience of listening to The Maze Runner the most enjoyable?

I'll keep it short. Very enjoyable book. The story has a very slow build up. However, if you can stick with it, the story does ramp up quite a lot and the pace really picks up at the end. It leave a fairly decent cliffhanger that keeps the reader looking forward toward book 2. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi and the dystopian society genre.

What other book might you compare The Maze Runner to and why?

The Giver, Hunger Games, Divergent, and similar

Have you listened to any of Mark Deakins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Nope

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story became very suspenseful toward the end.

worth the time

The story was well written, and the narrator did a good job of making it come alive. It took a couple chapters to get into, but once I did it was hard to put away.
