Publisher's summary

Charlie West just woke up in someone else's nightmare. He's strapped to a chair. He's covered in blood and bruises. He hurts all over. And a strange voice outside the door just ordered his death. The last thing he can remember is that he was a normal high-school kid doing normal things: working on his homework, practicing karate, daydreaming of becoming an Air Force pilot, writing a pretty girl's number on his hand. How long ago was that? Where is he now? Who is he really? And more to the point.... How is he going to get out of this room alive?

One of my favorite books I’ve read

I couldn’t stop reading and it had an amazing cliffhanger at the end and it’s making me read the next book

Great read.

Narrator was great! Good start, the middle seemed to drag a bit, but great finish. Clever plotline.

Really enjoyed it!

Charlie wakes up strapped to a chair in an interrogation room and he doesn't remember how he got there. The last thing he remembers is normal life in an American high school.

I really liked the characters (an important factor for me) and I got invested in their lives.

Please note that, even though the main character is a teen, it's a book that anyone can read. Actually any person of an age that can handle characters dying.

As the story unfolds, you find out how he got there but WHY did he get there? Why did he end up in that place with those people? The story is a bit of a cliffhanger but if you enjoyed the story as much as I did, you'll want to get the sequel to get more details. I'm already reading it right now!

Excellent! Riveting! Thought-provoking!

Klavan’s writing is rich, compelling and inspiring. He has once again succeeded at demonstrating thought-provoking and edge-of-your seat suspense that can capture a wide and diverse audience.

I would like to purchase this book for every teen young man that I know!!

Who can you trust?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and puzzles.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charlie West, was of course the best character.

Have you listened to any of Joshua Swanson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I heard Joshua Swanson perform and I was impressed.

Any additional comments?

Charlie West is put through the ringer and throughout the book I kept hoping for some relief for him. In a way, he is like James Bond in that he has some great talents but he needs his brains to put those talents to his best advantage. Unlike Bond, he has no backup. There is no country, no spy network, to support him. He is totally on his own...at least at this point. I can't wait to listen to the next installment.
