Publisher's summary

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy's instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea's forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors from both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don't succeed, Gaea's armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

Percy Jackson is the eponymous hero of the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. He made his debut in The Lightning Thief at just 12 years old, where he discovered the shocking truth about his parentage: He is a demigod, the son of a mortal woman and the god Poseidon. Beyond his own series, he was one of the protagonists in the Heroes of Olympus series and has since appeared in other spin-off novels and series from Riordan.

Horrible Narrator

Amazing story. Not going to lie all the reviews are correct this guy is horrible. He is someone that should just read a story where you don’t have to talk for the characters. This guy can’t do character voices and can’t even pronounce Gaea. This guy keeps saying Gia!! It is a hard listen but manageable. Sadly they have the same guy narrate the next book :-(. With all the comments I’m so surprised that with all the comments that the performance is at a 4.6.

Amazing story held back by narration.

The story is great! Characters are very well done. Unfortunately the narrator holds everything back. Skipped words, double words, using the wrong character’s voice, inconsistent pronunciation of words and names all happen way too frequently.

The narrator was the best

I loved the narrator. I could tell who was talking pretty much it and the story was really good. I love all the books.

Needs a better narrator.

Where does The House of Hades rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story is good. What I expected.

Would you be willing to try another one of Nick Chamian’s performances?

No. If I had to, it would be something without a lot of characters. These books are about the characters stories and Nick Chamian's performance is so dry and he doesn't seem to have the range to perform a book with so many varied characters. And the voices are nothing like I have come to expect from Joshua Swanson and Jesse Bernstien.

Any additional comments?

The switch in narrators has me seriously considering returning this one. I would rather try to find the time to sit down and read it then be bored in the car from the voice.

I don't dislike change, I dislike bad things

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. I could not deal with Chamian's excessive vocal fry.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The House of Hades?

When it ended and Chamian finally stopped talking

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nick Chamian?

Joshua Swanson, Kevin R. Free, James Marsters, pretty much anyone else

Any additional comments?

It's not that I dislike change, it's just that I dislike bad things. I suffered through Jesse Bernstein's narration of all the Percy Jackson books, and I was thrilled when Joshua Swanson took over for the Heroes of Olympus. When I heard that the narrator was different for this book, I was a bit disappointed that Swanson was not lending his great characterizations, but I was willing to give this new guy a shot. I listened to about two sentences that Nick Chamian uttered and knew I was in for a long 17+ hours. He has some of the most pronounced vocal fry I've ever heard outside of a twenty-something woman. Don't they teach you not to speak that way in narrator school?? I was very distracted throughout the whole book because I was trying to translate it into an enjoyable performance.

The book itself was a great continuation of the demigod saga. Riordan delivered a thoughtful and exciting story. I'm sure Nick Chamian is a very nice guy, but PLEASE do not allow him to narrate the final book in the Heroes of Olympus series. Please.

Good story not so great Narrator

How could the performance have been better?

I think the performance would have been better if the narrator hadn't talked so haltingly through out the story. Also I don't like how they keep switching the readers because you get used to the characters sounding a certain way and then they get someone else to read for the next book and you have to get used to a whole new set of voices for the same characters. I mean seriously? Jesse Berstien, then Joshua Swanson and now Nick Chamian? Can't you just choose one reader for the whole series? So yeah that's all for my review. Story is fantastic though as usual well done Rick Riordan :)

Best Book in This Series!!!

The House of Hades was a great read.. I have really enjoyed reading/listening to it, too many events right from the start of the book.. There was many new characters and too many old characters coming back.. some of them get a crucial part in this book and others just pass by.

One of the reasons why i liked this book is that you feel that all the characters are growing up, some of them physically, others by how they act... also secrets come out too..

honestly i feel The House of Hades is the best so far, and i can't wait to see how the next book will be like.
