Publisher's summary

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy's instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea's forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors from both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don't succeed, Gaea's armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

Patiently waiting for book 5

What made the experience of listening to The House of Hades the most enjoyable?

I like having different voices for each character. I very much like movies, so the different voices is like listening to a movie.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

You switched narrator - didn't like that. The first 3 books were narrated by the same person, so I already have "voices" for each character. The new narrator was okay, but I didn't like all of the voices he gave to the characters. I hope book 5 is narrated by Joshua Swanson - no offense to Nick Chamian.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Since I had already read the book, I didn't feel the need to listen to it all at once. I did, however, read the book in a weekend.

Solid member of the line

Where does The House of Hades rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very entertaining, follows the formula of the series which is starting to wear down but still fun.

Any additional comments?

The narrator is fine, I held off on listening to this because comments were that he ruins it. I have enjoyed this series a lot and was put off by this. I listen to the sample and couldn't tell from it. Then I listed to the book and he is wonderful, as good as the original just better in some places and not so much in others.

Okay Story, Bad Narration

Would you consider the audio edition of The House of Hades to be better than the print version?

No, I had a hard time listening to the narrator. He reminded my of the professor from "Ferris Bueller" when he was not doing a voice.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Nick Chamian?

No.

Solid

What did you love best about The House of Hades?

A solid book to continue the saga.
Another great performance by Nick Chamian!

Any additional comments?

the story turn with Nico was unfortunate and unnecessary. Extremely Disappointed in the author's choice

A Great Addition to the Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a fun action packed, good natured book.

Have you listened to any of Nick Chamian’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to any of Nick Chamian's performances before. I know a lot of people hate this performances for this book because we're so used to the other narrators. I almost didn't buy this in audiobook because all the reviews on his performance worried me. I read/listened to other books and stayed away from this book series for a while, and just recently bought it. I can see where Nick Chamian didn't quite do as well as the other narrators but he really tried. He tried to keep the same voices and tones that the narrator used before him. I don't think he did that bad of a job. Maybe it's because I took some time in-between books so I didn't notice it as badly as others.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

These books always make me laugh. The comedy in them is always there to break any tense scene.

Any additional comments?

Love the series, and I can't wait to get the next one!

I love the book, read it years ago..I thought listening to it would be great, and it was. Changing the man reading the book, on the fourth book of the series, not cool!!

Love the story, but adjusting to the narrator

I felt like the new narrator added more snarky ness to the characters, I miss bright happy people.

...

The narrator isn’t that much better... sort of worse. Hopefully I will get used to it by the end of the book.

Why did they change the reader!?

The first set of Percy Jackson books had a great reader.

This second set started off with a great reader. The last two books in this series got a new reader for whatever reason and he’s horrible. Everyone sounds the same. It just doesn’t compare.

Narration improves over course of story

It was hard having to switch from Joshua Swanson to Nick Chamian. At first it’s pretty terrible but I think that it was him trying to find the character for each person and after a while it gets better.
