"This fan girl enjoyed it...love triangles and all!"

Just wow! Again, I can't believe how much I enjoyed this book. Like the Selection there were so many bad reviews that I almost didn't get this book. So glad I didn't listen to the haters. This book was amazing. There were so many twists and turns and I enjoyed learning more about the world that Kiera Cass has created.

I can sympathize with those who hated the love triangle. It's frustrating, but isn't that what a love triangle is suppose to do? Otherwise who cares about it?? This is suppose to be about a young girl who is confused and has a huge decision to make under a stressful situation. I really felt sympathy for her character. And I can totally understand how confused she must be over Maxon and Aspen.

I don't get the negative reviews, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you enjoyed the Selection then I'm sure you will enjoy this one too. Just don't expect everything to be wrapped up and given to you with a bow on top. This is a trilogy and there is still more to come. This 2nd installment definitely left me wanting more and anticipating the final installment.

I enjoyed the narrator and the cover art is simply breathtaking.

Can't wait for the next book.

I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!

"I confess -- I really like this series!"

STORY - My husband and friends would probably tease me for listening to this book. The characters are teenaged girls, and the story is a combination of the TV show The Bachelor and the Cinderella fairy tale -- girls competing for a prince. It's chick lit all the way!

In this second book, The Selection has now become "The Elite," with only six competitors left from the larger original number. There are rivalries between the girls, as you might imagine. The main character, America, is not sure she's over the relationship with her old BF, who is now a guard at the palace where the competition is taking place. So there's a love triangle going on during the competition, plus the kingdom is experiencing political unrest and is under attack.

It may be teenaged chick lit, but there's a lot that's going on in the story that I find totally enjoyable. It's a light, easy listen, with lots of young, innocent romance thrown in. I might be stupid at my age for enjoying this series, but I do. I can't wait for the third and final book to come out to see how everything ends up. (These books must be listened to in order, as each one leads into the next).

NARRATION - The reader has an unusual way of reading which I can't quite describe. It sort of bothered me for maybe an hour into the first book, but after that I thought she was perfect for the rest of that book and this one as well.

OVERALL - For females about 15 and up. There's no inapproprite language or situations. It might be too immature for some listeners, but not this one.

    "Fantastic!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Elite to be better than the print version?

Yes, Amy does an amazing job. I just had to closed eyes and pretend I was there.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I didn't have one, it was all good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, the scene where America caught the Prince making out with another girl. My stomach dropped.

    "A Surprise Around Every Turn"

Normally I can easily predict the twists and turns of a book, especially a young adult novel, but with the Elite I was put n a roller coaster of twists and turns that I never saw coming. The evolution of characters was so amazing! I know you may think a series that is basically an elongated love triangle could not possibly have any large twists beyond the main character picking one person over the other. But Kiera Cass certainly did so and more. Not only that but the maturity in the storyline gave the plot so much more of an edge. I can not wait for the next installment of the Selection series and I look forward to other series from Kiera Cass.

    "America how could you?!"

I cant. I CAN’T! If I never read another book with a love triangle it will be too soon. I loved the first book in this series. It was a fun lighthearted distopian which is not easy to do, and I really enjoyed it. This book... this book frustrated me more then any book has in a long, long time. Pretty much no story line but the ridiculous love triangle that goes nowhere by the way if anything it only gets more complicated.

America made every single bad decisoin she could think of and we endend this book exactly where we started.

Sure there are still some fun aspects of this book that made the first one so great, and yes, I will be reading/listening to the last one, but The Elite fell so short of my expectations I can hardly believe it.

If you can’t help but find out what happens next then listen to this one at your own risk. Maybe after this warning you will be able to enjoy it more. Good luck.

    What a let down.
I loved the first book. I loved the characters.
I pre-ordered the book. It fell to pieces.

The only plot that this followed was one of teen angst: "I like him, no I like him, no I don't know what to do" Major events were happening in the story - additional raids, traitors. No description on these major plot events, nope, all taking a back seat to the love triangle.

Then, to make what little plot come together, the author would drop plot bombshells on the readers left and right. Traitors, cheating, abuse, by characters that you liked, and it seemed that there was no reason for these twists and turns that tore down the character development that was done in the first book, other than to highlight the love triangle- that did not make sense in the first place.

    What a disappointment.

The first book was so fun, and this did not live up.

    "Nope. Nope nope nope."

I enjoyed the first book and immediately started on the second, but I very quickly realized that in book two, America Singer began losing brain cells at an incredible rate. She seemed like a reasonable human being at the outset, but soon all she could talk about was how confused she was. That was almost all that happened in the whole book--"No Maxon, I won't leave because I might like you...just wait indefinitely. And don't talk to any of the other girls. Just sit tight while I go make out with Aspen." I mean, I am an extremely indecisive person myself, and she made me look like Judge Judy. Notable exceptions to this confusion include the time she pointlessly told her father about some very sensitive information she had sworn to keep secret, and those other times when she wasn't confused because she very confidently leapt to completely insane conclusions. After landing at these conclusions she of course needed to take swift, rash, extremely decisive action to sabotage herself (and those she claimed to care about) at every turn. Great job, honey. Why is this even a book?

My other complaint is the narration. Perhaps it is to some people's taste, but the EXTREME breathiness of nearly every single word basically made me want to scream. Please stop whispering.

    "Is he worth it?!"

I am not a huge fan of love triangles. As a married woman I know I will never be a part of a love triangle....so why can't I put this book down???

What is this political significance that has the rebels SO VIOLENT? America has become emotionally invested now (in Maxon), so her inner dialogue is much more emotional. She is getting distracted by her emotions and cannot see the political significance she needs to share with Maxon.... I wish that Maxon could trust America with more secrets, but she needs to prove herself trustworthy....and she hasn't......yet. :D

Maxon has impressed me from the moment we met, and we find out so much more about Maxon in this book (yea!!) We get to see the ladies lead their own royal tasks, like learning about court functions and practice directing them. You grow to like other girls in the competition (who knew?), and even feel a little sympathy and jealousy towards them (dresses, parties, and drama, OH My!).

Also, didn't realize this was a miniseries on tv...

Would you listen to The Elite again? Why?

Yes, because it is a great series

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Elite?

Didn't have one. Loved the whole book.

Have you listened to any of Amy Rubinate’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, the Everneath series. Same pace, same type of voices but it had a different tone that separated the stories.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Finished in three days
