The Passage meets Ender's Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.
After the first wave, only darkness remains. After the second, only the lucky escape. And after the third, only the unlucky survive. After the fourth wave, only one rule applies: Trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the fifth wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.
Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother - or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Short, Simple, No Spoilers
Anyone else over the trilogy happy dystopian and paranormal YA lit? This one stands out and is worth your credit and time.
Cassie feels like the last human on earth after aliens have quietly invaded our planet. There are no grand explosions, little green men, or friendly visitors wishing to interact and understand our race. Stealthy and cunning, the "others" unleash several waves to eradicate the human race while preserving the Earth's natural resources. The plot is layered with well thought out details; feels like peeling an onion instead of gliding the surface of most successful dystopian trilogies. Writing style is thoughtful, smart, and insightful.
Cared about the characters, enjoying alternating viewpoints and narration by Cassie and other character (no spoilers). Their journey was a little like "Revolution," "The Walking Dead," and "The Road" woven into a teenage tapestry of action, adventure, and the power of perseverance. Found myself walking alongside characters to find food and shelter and feeling just as disturbed trying to figure out how to distinguish the enemy from other humans. Interesting to explore in this read. Highly recommend.
I haven't read the print version but the audio edition was amazing!
I can't think of one at the moment unless you count The Hunger Games but that's not an alien invasion or anything.
No. They were amazing! I love their voices!
"To hold on, you have to find something you're willing to die for." or "They are coming for us."
This was an amazing book! My husband (pretty much a non-reader except for a few series) started listening to it and he finished it before I did! He loved it. He asked when the next one would be out and I had to tell him not until next year.
I fell in love with this book, with the characters. I even felt like it was happening now. Outside my house. I didn't want to look outside!! It gives me chills! Amazing!!!
If you liked RED DAWN and 28 DAYS LATER and all those other zombie apocalypse movies and books you'll enjoy this one. A fast-paced YA (that means young adult) for everyone, not just teens. This book is going to be a movie, of course, cuz it's AWESOME. Made a 12 hour car ride fly by!
This one had me from the beginning to the end! Can't wait for book 2! If you liked The Hunger Games I think you will like this one.
Everything. The narrator, the story, the characters, the prose. There is not a single thing I did not like about this book. LOVED IT!
Cassie. She is very likable, interesting, and so freaking hilarious!
I finished listening to this book and was very impressed with how much I loved the story and the characters. I had no idea I was going to love it so much. I cannot wait for the second!!!
I'm very good listen the two readers were wonderful
a lot are comparing this the Hunger Games I think it's much better the characters are definitely more developed here and this book you couldn't help but really root for everyone from all sides

Yes. I'm sure I missed things the first time around.
Couldn't wait to turn the page to find out what happened next to these characters.
Can't choose. Liked both equally.
Yes. I had an emotional attachment to these characters. I laughed at things Cassie said.
I read a lot and have enjoyed many books but this one has to be in my top 10. It was the most exciting book I've read since The Hunger Games Trilogy. Can't wait for the next in the series. And I'm 51 years old.
This is my first experience with this author. I am very pleased to say that I have a new fav to add to my collection. So good I dreaded the ending. Now what am I going to do while waiting for the next book in the series? sigh...
I think they would be the same.
Everything! It blew me away!!!
They did a phenomenal job
This book is amazing! Really, I’d have to say it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year!
Whenever I tell someone about this book, I always paint a picture of the first scene in the book because, for me, it totally sets the tone for the entire story. And I knew I’d love this book right after that scene transpired.
What makes this book amazing? The whole premise of the book is awesomely unique, the characters were very well developed and the execution was perfect!
As far as the characters go, I’m not quite sure if I’m really all that fond of Cassie, the main character, because her actions were really flip-flop to me. One minute she’s being super mean to pretty much every dude her age she interacts with, and the next minute she’s changing how she reacts to the other dude (can’t say cause it’s a spoiler). Yes, I know in her internal dialog she notices this character trait about herself, but she doesn’t really do anything about it, and it still bugged me. Plus, I’m not thrilled with how she feels about one of the characters by the end of the book. There are 3 other POVs in this story (all 3 are male character POVs), but two of them are kind of spoilers so I’m not going to talk about them (other than to say that one of those 2 is my FAVORITE POV.) The one male POV that I am OK with discussing is Zombie’s. I’m actually really fond of his character, and I think he rocks! OH! And pretty much all the other side characters from Zombie’s POV are my favorites too. I was always thrilled to be in is POV.
The ending is the BEST and I loved it! I’m so excited about this book…I truly believe it 100% deserves the hype it’s been given, and I know this one will be a big hit!
I'm a mid-20s girl that is addicted to books! I love all things paranormal, fantasy, historical fiction and mystery. No romance novels here!
Yes, but they would need to commit to it... it is long and the big reveals aren't until the end.
The main character is pretty angsty. However, I did end up enjoying her by the end. I assume there will be a couple more books since it was left wide open at the end.
Love the narration! They brought life to the charactors.
