Publisher's summary

Miss Mildred Percy inherits a dragon.

Ah, but we’ve already got ahead of ourselves…

Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg.

The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.”

But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever. And now Mildred must contend with raising a dragon (that should not exist), kindling a romance (with a humble vicar), and embarking on an adventure she never thought could be hers for the taking.

I love this narrator

I could listen to her all day. The story is light and fun and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Author’s voice

The story is mildly familiar (though the addition of a fun lil dragon is great) but it’s the way the author let loose with parenthetical comments that makes it more fun and entertaining than most regency era stories.

Delightfully cute cozy story.

This is a delightfully cute cozy story about a spinster in Edwardian England whose lived her entire life as a shadow person to her domineering younger sister. Currently living as a nurse maid and tutor to her sisters kids, in her sister's house. And due to circumstances she inherited some of her uncle's possessions including a Dragon egg... and as the newly hatched baby Dragon grows and spreads his wings she's emboldened enough to spread her's too.
Zara Ramm absolutely caught the flavor of the time period and of Maud Percy as she narrated this story.

Story had some good spots and a lot of boring

It was so-so. Some of it was funny, but it drawled on ALOT. I did finish the story, but I honestly could have stopped listening at any time and not have felt compelled to finish it.

A Lovely Story Worth the Listen

I do love stories of brave people doing the ordinary (and extraordinary) tasks of living with courage and care for one another (and dragons as appropriate). This is one of the best. When I'm interested in a quiet listen, this one fills the bill today and will again. I look forward to listening to the next book In the series. The narrator is just right for the story. No one's perfect...so no doubt something will get (or got out) of order. But that's fine. This one's well worth the credit for me!!! Thanks for the lovely read!!!

Funny and Charming

A lovely story with a lite hint of Jane Austin characters. The author’s wit and dry sense of humor was very enjoyable! I would love to hear the second one and hope the characters grow as strong as Fritz.

Such a lovely story

So much fun to be lost in Miss Percy's world, made so real by an excellent narrator. Now on to volume 2!

HILARIOUS! LOVERS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE REJOICE!

I don't know when I have laughed so uproariously at the actual turns of phrases in a book. The story telling itself is even better than the great story.
This is a wonderful heartfelt series that can be read with children who have developed a love of language.
The author goes to great lengths to make that possible by omitting inappropriate words and scenes.

Zara Ramm is as wonderful a narrater as one could ever hope for and made me feel as if the author, herself were reading the book to me.
I have already acquired and listened to the next book, and if the author reads this, I am pleading for book #3 to be recorded by Audible, post haste!
