Critic reviews

"New Moon will more than feed the bloodthirsty hankerings of fans of the first volume and leave them breathless for the third." (School Library Journal)

"Bella's dismay at being ordinary (after all, she's only human) will strike a chord even among girls who have no desire to be immortal, and like the vampires who watch Bella bleed with 'fevered eyes', teens will relish this new adventure and hunger for more." (Booklist)

loved the narrators interpretation

I tried to read this series a half dozen times and couldn't get through it. the narrator made the story for me. her interpretation of Edward was excellent. the irritation and annoyance I felt for Bella came through clearly.

Another favorite

If you could sum up New Moon in three words, what would they be?

really sad, happy, euphoric

What did you like best about this story?

i love that she and jacob are such good friends but i loved the fact that she and edward were reunited

What does Ilyana Kadushin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

her voice does not grate on your nerves

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

made me really really sad, cry maybe, but none of these books make me laugh. was really really happy when she and edward were reunited

Any additional comments?

these books may be considered books for younger people but i am 59 years old. i have learned to appreciate books that do not have cursing every other sentence and no blatent sex. i would recommend these books to anybody, and have.

For Teens to Adults

I thought maybe this would be just a book for teens. I found myself listening to the entire thing far to fast! 12 or 55 it was a very nice listen. Good old fashion love story with a vampiric twist :).

Continue The Series

I didn't want to like this series... since it targets teenage girls. But it is well written, a good story and I am used to the narration. I even purchased this book using $$$ instead of using credits... something I have never done. I get 2 a month and only use credits to get the books I want. It is just as good as Twilight and the next I hear is better. I repeat: "I am hooked in this series even though I fought it" Great Read... Buy it. (I am about to pay $$ for #3 cause I don't want to wait the 4 days for my credits to re-up)

Heartbreak you can relate to.

What did you love best about New Moon?

I felt like I was experiencing Bella's heartbeak as the narrator described it. Most anyone can remember the intense pain of loosing that first love but few of us have the total loss that Bella believed she was experiencing. It helped me understand the pain of my own teen as she navigated this part of her life. Sharing this book with her helped her understand that I knew what she was going through without her having to share the too personal stuff.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Edward but missed him for a lot of this book.

What does Ilyana Kadushin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I had read the book first so it was nice to hear a voice of the proper age reading this. Hearing her expression helped me to remember the perspective of an intelligent teen with little dating experience. I especially liked Jacob's "voice." It gave me a different mental picture of him from what was portrayed in the movie. Ilyana has a voice I could listen to anytime.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

To save herself she must save them both.

My favorite Twilight book

Where does New Moon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I read all of the Twilight books previously and have seen the movies, so I knew the story and what to expect. Having said that, I still found myself getting completely lost in the story all over again. I like listening to books while on the road. A three hour road trip seemed to fly by and I couldn't wait until the trip home.

Which character – as performed by Ilyana Kadushin – was your favorite?

The narrator did a good job. She didn't change her voice a whole lot for the different characters, but there was no difficulty distinguishing who was talking.

Any additional comments?

New Moon is by far my favorite of the Twilight books. The characters are established and the precedent has been set which allows the author to dive right into the story. The emotions are so accurately described you feel like you are in Bella's shoes. Any two "people" can fall in love, but it takes true commitment and sacrifice for that love to withstand attacks from the outside and the trials of life - especially a life as different as theirs.
Stephanie Meyers references Romeo and Juliet particularly in the beginning of this book - brilliant! It's very subtle but it almost acts as foreshadowing for the plot and feel of the book. Obviously, it does not end the same way that Romeo and Juliet does, but it is a great literary tool. However, if you are not familiar with the Romeo and Juliet story, it does not impede your experience in the slightest. Just a fantastic extra morsel.
Learning Rosa Lee's back story added a great deal of depth to that character and her behavior.
Stephanie also does a wonderful job with Jacob character and the stark contrast between he and Edward. Not in a good vs bad way, but good in two very different ways - even down to the temperature of their bodies; Edward being icy cold and Jacob's being steaming hot.
The creation of the Voltorie characters and the elaborate depth of detail into their realm is quite remarkable.
I just thoroughly enjoyed this book! In fact this is the only Twilight book that I have as an audio book.
