Publisher's summary

One choice can transform you - or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves - and herself - while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable - and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Decent Story Line - Terrible Narration!

Would you be willing to try another one of Emma Galvin’s performances?

I bought all three audible books after reading the reviews...wish I didn't! Although the story is decent, the narration is incredibly distracting! If you want to read this series, buy the books and read them yourself. Where was the director and why didn't they edit! Emma Galvin constantly raises the tone of her voice in the middle of a sentence so it sounds like a question, and pauses at inappropriate times. She may also need a grammar lesson, a comma means a short pause, not the end of a sentence!

Why did I read these now?!

Warning: this book ends leaving you hanging! Obviously this is about the resistance. Trice frustrates me sometimes, as does Tobias because they have such strong personalities and beliefs. They don't trust each other much so that caused a few problems. But the storyline is good and like I said, leave you hanging!

Parent/Child Relationships

The story of Tris, Four, & their gang continues. The story continues to unfold about who Tris' & Four's parents REALLY were & why they made the choices they did along the way. We get to know Tris' brother Caleb more in this book. And like many YA drama books, this one is not without it's teenage love drama as Tris & Four dig deeper into what their relationship is & where it is going. The problems in the world, or at least what they believe to be their world, continue to prove more in depth & more difficult than the good guys thought originally. A few more loved characters are lost to the cause, & even a not-so-beloved character exits stage left.

I said in my review of "Divergent" that I hadn't yet made up my mind about whether I preferred the Divergent or Hunger Games series. I am beginning to lean toward Hunger Games, but I still can't make a definitive decision just yet. I am not a big "love story" kind of person, so I don't care as much for the love story plot, but it does help to even out the anxiety of the war that is beginning to rage. On to the 3rd & final book to see how it all plays out.

Age recommendation: 14 & up (violence, death, sensual scenes)

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 8.

A very good follow-up

I enjoyed the second installment. I was taken by the plot twists and Roth is a bit raw with this one. Well written again and a deeper storyline. Not as enjoyable as Divergent but a must to see what happens. I am concerned about the progress of the series. I am into book 3 and not very happy and I see 4 is available for pre-sale. I hope 3 picks up because the series has potential.

Tris is so annoying in this book

In Divergent, Tris was such a strong and interesting character. But in Insurgent, she is an annoying, angsty teenage girl. I wish she would have been more like the Tris we knew in the first book

Happily Surprised

What did you love best about Insurgent?

The story line is fresh and moved along fast enough to keep my interest. I listened to the story on my morning and evening commute to and from work. Although it is a young adult book it was not written in a childish manner. My only disappointement is the 3rd book is not out yet to conclude the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I do not have a favorite character. Oddly I was drawn in more with the sub characters.

What does Emma Galvin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Emma'a voice is pleasant to listen to. The texture of her voice was youthful enough to convince the listener she was Triss

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

At times

Any additional comments?

Really wish the 3rd book was out.

Better than the first

Most sequels aren't as good as its predecessor. This is one of those that breaks the mold. Too bad the movie didn't stay true to the story line here.
