Publisher's summary

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books but we are real.

Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.

But they know.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.

I am Number Four.

I am next.

Also included is a sneak listen to the first chapter of the next book in the series. Enjoy!

Wrong narrator

It’s a good story but the narrator almost ruins it. First it’s obviously an older man. The main character is a 15 year old boy so it does match at all. Then all his impersonations of other characters are horrible. They are either super nasally, sounding super dumb, or yelling in a super annoying voice. This would have been way better with a different narrator.

The movie was better than the book.

While the book was entertaining, it was fairly simple and really seemed geared more for newer readers to the genre. I think the movie was much better in how succinct and direct it was. The book had a penchant for wandering off into emotional stuff that really didn't add to the story. The world building and rules were also hard to believe at times. I probably won't get the rest of the series and instead stick with something more well rounded.

Horrible narrating.

Good story, but almost ruined by the narrator. I'm an audible regular and I've never come across a narrator this bad. The two main characters are fine, but then the voices he used for the other supporting characters are ridiculous. Any female voice is a strange whining and quickly overshadows their character. And do not fit the action scenes where he uses the pathetic pouting voice for strong characters. Not to mention the football player who has deep "dopey" voice. So far over done, I'm sorry to say I had to struggle to get through it.

The Worst Narration Ever!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I have listened to numerous audio books. Some good and some bad but have never listened to one where the narrator ruins the story. I am not sure I am going to be able to finish this book. It is completely overacted and many of the voices he uses are down right grating on the ears. I have never been this disappointed in an audio book. I do like the story but could not recommend this audio version to anyone!!!!

Seductive

I have seen the advertisement for the movie for some time. I never intended to see it. I only read the book because I finally noticed that I received a credit every Month so I decided to try it out. I don't know why I decided to read this particular book. Once I began I could not put it down. My drive to work is a hour long which is plenty of time to get into the story. I found myself anticipating my long ride home. I welcomed sitting in traffic on bad traffic days because it afforded me the opportunity to envelop myself into the story. I am currently on book 6 and after I finish this review I am going to load up book 7. Great Story.

Great YA book!

Likable characters and a story interesting enough to catch the reader quickly. I’ll be starting right in on book 2!

Enjoyable

Book one and two are very enjoyable and hold your attention from beginning to end. Book 3 was killed by the extra narrators and a slower story. Get the first 2 and think about the 3rd.

An older man's voice in the skin of a teenager

The story was good if you listen to it from a young adult's perspective, however the narrator was just awful. Not his fault when it comes to not having a young voice, but when he does most other voices, they are just ridiculous. He gives many characters the most crazy, stupid voices one could imagine. It ruins the whole thing. I listened to the beginning of the next book in the series and they seem to have fixed the problem. This is a book worth reading, but not a good Audible.
