Publisher's Summary

Rich in suspense and brimming with adventure, the New York Times best-selling Underland Chronicles unfold the fate of the Underland and the great warrior, Gregor. Suzanne Collins is also the author of the best-selling Hunger Games trilogy.

Everyone has been trying to keep Gregor from seeing the final prophecy, The Prophecy of Time. It calls for the warrior's death, that warrior being Gregor, of course. Now, an army of rats is quickly approaching and Gregor's mom and little sister Boots are still in Regalia. The entire existence of the Underland is in Gregor's hands and time is running out. There is a code that must be cracked, a new princess to contend with Gregor's burgeoning dark side, and a war designed to end all wars.

In this suspenseful final installment in the acclaimed Underland Chronicles, Suzanne Collins unfolds the fate of the Underland and the great warrior, Gregor the Overlander, in a manner that can only be described as masterful.

"They kissed. They parted. Fantasy meets Reality."
Would you consider the audio edition of Gregor and the Code of Claw to be better than the print version?

With multiple listenings of the audio, I have not felt the need to read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ripred impressed me with his insights, honesty and devotion. He was Gregor's mentor, a reality check for the Regalian royalty, the hope of the rats even when they did not know it, and the one person who could handle prophecy as it ought to be.

What about Paul Boehmer’s performance did you like?

Paul Boehmer gave enough vocal distinction to make most characters seem differentiated and real. I especially liked Boots, Mrs. Cormaci and Ripred. His style and diction made the story easy to listen to, which I did several times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved to breathe a sigh of relief when Luxa refused to come above ground and the rock was replaced. Luxa, tender and loving at moments, also revealed herself to be a young Solovet. And if the royal-commoner divide does not doom a relationship with Gregor, her warrior predisposition and ability to stand by and watch him die in quicksand certainly are not good omens. Gregor needs Mrs. Cormaci's healing touch much more than he needs Luxa's hand. Fantasy meets reality.

    Any additional comments?

Not many sword and sorcery fantasy books paint a picture of battle as realistic as Collins has here. Gregor spends more time in the hospital than in battle, and ends the book needing much healing. The children in the story, though, seem a wee bit older than their stated ages, and I think the story has a lot to offer readers/listeners a wee bit beyond Gregor's thirteen.

"A cure for my hunger games hunger!"
Where does Gregor and the Code of Claw rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was prepared to be disappointed in this book because the Hunger Games series was just so darn good. How could Suzanne Collins possibly have had a whole series published before the phenomenon, that I'd never heard of, that was good?? Well, this was excellent and had me hooked in under a minute.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Gregor and the Code of Claw?

When the crawlers spoke for the first time with their unique syntax and cadence! "Princess you be, princess!"

    Any additional comments?

I am addicted! I've read the whole series. Love, love, love!

"I loved the entire Gregor series"
Where does Gregor and the Code of Claw rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'm not sure which of the Gregor series books I like the best. They were all very entertaining. I have enjoyed this series better than any other audible books so far.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Lucsa's character because she was so powerful and brave.

What does Paul Boehmer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was very animated in his voice changes, which helped make the characters more real.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well, no, although I looked forward to my car trips because I new I'd be entertained!

    Any additional comments?

All age groups will love these books, but some young teens might need a little guidance.

    "I actually enjoyed this series!"

At the onset of the first novel I worried this series might turn out to be too juvenile to enjoy. I am glad I didn't ask for a refund on this series. I don't feel like my time was wasted.

It was obviously written for a juvenile audience. What I found to be most refreshing about this though, was the fact that in the beginning the characters truly act their ages. She preserved the facts of youth very well as she developed a depth to each character that was understandable as well as believable.

Overall I found myself very much in love with these novels by the time I finished the series. I wish there were more, but understand that the show cannot go on forever.

Thank you Suzanne Collins for a series that I feel has truly added so much to my life.

    "Fantasy with a Profound Message"
Would you listen to Gregor and the Code of Claw again? Why?

I don't know if I'd listen again, but the books are among my favorites now. You are drawn in book by book, until the meaning of them is slowly clear. In most fantasy especially for a young audience, everything is solved at the end. Not so here. This story is a profound anti-war story that left me deeply moved.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Too many favorites. But I will remember many of them forever, and wish there was some way to know what happens afterward. But that is the underlying theme. Lives are ruined in wars, life goes on anyway.

Have you listened to any of Paul Boehmer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No I haven't

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    The ending was wrenching.

    Any additional comments?

The characters were so well drawn and unforgettable, I feel I know them.
