Publisher's summary

A hidden truth. Mortal enemies. Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a drakia descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy. Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

Super good story, disliked the heroine

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, for the heroine to put her money where her mouth is. Stand up for something with more than words. It's all stupid passive aggressive choice after stupid passive aggressive choice. I really hate that.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

for her to once say, I don't care what you say mom, I will not let part of me die. You can live with that and we can move to a climate that will make that possible or I will and you can stay here.

Teenage romance novel

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This was a good story if they would have just cut out the 90% of the homone flashes.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The plot was excellent however filling the story with all the mush was its downfall.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Therese Plummer?

She did a good job with the story and I enjoyed her voice.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No,

Hooked, but copies Twilight!

I was totally into this story, but a little ways in, in seemed rather familiar....Almost word for word, it began to copy Twilight! Firelight, Twilight.....anyway, electric feelings, rushing from classrooms...you name it! There was even a bit of Last of the Mohicans thrown in..."I will find you!"
Anyway, aside from that, it wasn't vampire, and the concepts were interesting...and at least, the "Edward" figure was switched to a female, this time, for interest.
All in all, because I am a sucker, I am downloading the next book, to see what happens.
The romance was great....there weren't any outright sex scenes, which I appreciate. No foul language, either...maybe a damn or hell...
Even if somewhat predictable, it was a pleasant listen.

I thought the series would get better

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Unless you like YA reads, I wouldn't get this.

Would you recommend Firelight to your friends? Why or why not?

No. As the first in the series, I thought it would improve as the story went along. It didn't.

What aspect of Therese Plummer’s performance would you have changed?

She couldn't have done anything with the story to make it better. You read the words that are written.

Did Firelight inspire you to do anything?

I took a chance on the second book in the series ... I don't recommend you do that. I didn't bother to finish it because it dragged on and on. I guess I was inspired not to waste anymore time on it.

He lights her fire

Firelight is a type of Romeo and Juliet tale where Will, who is a hunter, meets Jacinda who happens to be a drakia, an intelligent being evolved from dragons; Wills family hunts drakia.
The Drakia keep a closely guarded secret that no one, not even the hunters know; they can transform into human form.
As circumstances bring these two together there is an immediate attraction. Will lights her fire in more ways than one; which is not a good thing if Jacinda wants to keep the drakia secret.
This book is written for a YA audience and, as is typically for this genre, heavily emphasizes teenage infatuation; but still is a good story even for an older listener.
Know that this is book one of a series and does not have a concise ending, but sets up interest for the next book.

good beginning, good middle, coming to no end

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story is good but I grow weary of books that do not bring some kind of conclusion to a story. This book does not serve as a stand alone. I bought the next book in hope of comming to a conclusion but the next book starts in the middle and ends in the middle.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Each book should be a story that can stand alone even if the characters have continuing adventures in the next book

Was Firelight worth the listening time?

Original ideas for the story

Would you listen to Firelight again? Why?

It was an enjoyable listen, I liked the concept presented.Wasnt too teeny orientated but the brief vague ending leaves you needing to read the next one which since I enjoyed it so much will get the next one.

Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?

Good strong characters, kind of reminds me of how family can be, good and bad!

Loved it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Recommended to those who like fantasy fiction with a romance twist. Probably more suited to teens but I loved this book too (I'm thirty somthing).

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely!

Any additional comments?

It's a great story and as soon as I finished it, I bought the next two in the trilogy. In fact, I want to write the author personally and ask her to write more!

Fly with Dragons (almost)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would highly recommend this book to all of my fantasy and dragon lovers alike.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was defiantly Will, he was kind and caring while still being firm and authoritative.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The exasperation in the character's voice. I would say this brings you into the book and makes the character seem real, as if you were her, feeling her real struggles.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not extremely, though I couldn't turn off my headset, so I hope that says something. No one thing stands out, I've been captivated by the entire book.

Any additional comments?

I just love this book and can't wait to read more by this author with performances by this performer.
