Publisher's summary

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

Captivation With Questions Unanswered...

This story wrapped me in pretty quickly, as I do enjoy a good angel story every now and then. It was unique and had a different take on angels than most other stories of this particular subject so it was easy to want to carry on. I do have quite a few questions unanswered but I'm going to push forward in hopes that they will be answered and I'm almost certain they will be. If you don't enjoy a slow build to a story unraveling all of its secrets, this book isn't for you. I almost like all of the mystery that comes with this story but I hope it doesn't leave me with unanswered questions and let me down. I guess we will have to see. The characters are extremely secretive in addition to the story having many secrets of its own.
As for the narration, I really enjoyed listening to Justine and her strong female voice. It's hard to find a strong, adult-like female voice, as most seem to be somewhat annoying, pitchy and overdramatic. Very well done with a variety of tones and sarcasm. Onward with book two.

Beautiful idea

The book itself lives within the main character’s head for a majority of the story while she agonizes over the main love interests interest in her. I love the story, it is well written and as an book in a series does , the ending leaves you with more questions. This is a teen romance novel and hangs a lot on a semi-love triangle that isn’t made completely clear and an impending war that is sure to have far reaching impact on the world as the build up has been happening for millennia. If you like the twilight series, you’ll probably like ‘Fallen’ , “Luce” is a much more likable female lead in my opinion and “Daniel” is an absolute angel. Overall I give it a 4 because I would have appreciated a bit more character development surrounding the other characters to flesh the story out and help to give the book more depth.

Good

Surprisingly great! A bit confusing sometimes but I was really into the story, surprisingly. YA is my guilty pleasure but sometimes, it drives me crazy. This one was good!

Ehh not sure yet

This sounded so good, but it seams to be falling flat somewhere. I have all the next books so I will keep on with it and hope it’s going to get better

Great ending, but you need patience to get there.

I am enjoying this series and do recommend it for an entertaining listen.

Three-fourths of Fallen seemed to be character development. It had a few surprises and I wanted to shake Luce a number of times, but the major events were left to the end of the book. The big revelation about the Daniel, was anti-climactic...quite obvious very early on in the book. However, so much happened at the end, I felt that my patience was rewarded.

The development of her characters is one of Kate's strongest points. You really do feel like you know them from Luce's point of view. I really had no problem seeing this world from the main character's perspective, because of the descriptive text provided. I felt so in-tune with Luce that I was surprised when she did not react to situations exactly like I might have...and we have nothing in common.

I thought the narrator was good. I didn't care for all of her voices, but the distinction between characters was helpful and her performance never took me out of the story. I have heard better, but she did well.

It was great.

Finally got my hands on this book, though it was a much slower pace for me I thought it was a good story. It became a bit frustrating with the characters because time and time again important information was withheld. I also didn't like how Luce was portrayed more like a victim then a strong girl. She kept begging to be told of who she was and why she was sooooo important. I get why they wanted to shelter her from the truth but OMG!!! It was too frustrating. Overall this book was great the story was well written and the narrator did such a beautiful job voicing this story.

Liked the story but really dislike narrator

Where does Fallen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

2nd to fav so far, But I just got into audio books, so far I've listened to under 10

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was a bit slow like most reviewers stated but only in a way where the writer made the mysterious aspects of the book take too long to develop and by the time they did I already figured it out. For being 452 pages long I would've liked to see maybe more story into the characters and where they come from more on their pasts and how they got the where they are.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Justine Eyre?

Edwina Wren-LOVE her. She has a great method for making the voices all sound different so when someone talks you can tell who is saying what. She has an uncanny ability to express so many emotions in the story that it feels like the story is gliding smoothly.

No offense to Justine Eyre, I've heard she has had many awards and is known for being talented in accents but I dont feel she can portray emotions well, when she read parts of this book it did not fit what was going on because she read it incorrectly. Im sure she is great with other genres just not this one. She maybe belongs more with classical books.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The only extreme reactions I had were annoyance and frustration with the narrator and with the book I had some edge of the seat moments and teary moments-love how quirky Arianne is!

Loved the story!

The narrator did a really good job telling the story with different voices for each character!
