June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic - and each other - and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government's elite circles as Princeps Elect while Day has been assigned a high-level military position. But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them once again. Just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic's border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country's defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything he has. With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu's best-selling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.

"Close of a Very Underrated Series"

Champion was a satisfying ending to a solid dystopian trilogy - one of the most underrated in the last few years, in my opinion. Author Marie Lu manages to sidestep a lot of the cliches of the genre and end with a satisfying but not pat ending. But she also stays true to the Les Miserable inspiration as well.

June has returned to help Anden run the Repulic as a Princeps Elect while Day grapples with a tumor slowly destroying his brain. Separated by situation, both are grappling with the deaths and grief in their lives. But Anden is losing control of the government, the Colonies have a new, dangerous ally, and everything begins to fall apart as one of the previous plagues mutates. June has to hold the government and senate together, Day has to hold his own failing health and small family together, and the only cure to the plague could very well cost him the last family member he has left alive - his younger brother Eden.

Champion is a slow burn - much more about the politics and the pathos than in action (though the finale offers quite a punch). Both June and Day have matured greatly and I really appreciated that author Lu kept their voices unique and distinct (June's obsession with numbers, Day's gutter-rat colloquialisms) yet also gave them further depth as befitting what they went through in the first two novels.

Thomas, Jameson, Tess, and others all make appearances and their stories are discretely finished in addition to Day and June's emotional arc. This really is a layered book - a study in loss, grief, hopelessness, and at the center, hope. Both Day and June ended up being very against the cliches of the genre and the depth of their journey is extremely well written.

I listened to the audible version and both narrators were excellent - really giving life and energy to the characters.

"Wraps it all up, and ties it with a bow!"

This series is a typical story of a rogue teenage boy, law abiding girl and their mission to beat the system. However, Marie Lu did "typical" differently. There was romance, but not too much, just enough action, and a great ending. Well worth reading.

"Edge of your seat action/tugs the heart"

Thrilling trilogy. I fell in love w/ this couple.

This last installment is perfection! There's edge of your seat, nail biting action as well as real life war type scenes along w/ heartwarming tenderness (not in an unmanly way).

Great narration. Solid NO gap story line. There is nothing left to question about the wars, the plagues, etc, all is answered. Well, there is one question left to ponder but it's a good one.The ending has me longing for a 4th book-I want to know more.

    Any additional comments?

Slight twists to the ending, but still a little bit predictable. Predictable in a good way that you enjoy listening to it even though you have already guessed how the majority of the plot turns out.

    "A must read series"

Marie Lu did a great job with character development and story line. Her stars were both relatable and likable; they interacted well with one another. The plot line was captivating. There were surprises along the way, but they added depth, not disappointment. In the post-apocalyptic science fiction category, I would put these treasures right below The Hunger Games, which is awesome.

"This is how it should be done!"
If you could sum up Champion in three words, what would they be?

    The perfect ending

What did you like best about this story?

    everything!!

Have you listened to any of Steven Kaplan and Mariel Stern ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

They are amazing and really bring the story to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the ending mainly but a few others scenes really made the book for me

    Any additional comments?

Absolutely amazing book! If you are going to write a trilogy and have it stay with the reader this should be the guidebook. I listened to it completely, two days in a row, the first day just to know what happened and the second time so I could just enjoy a great story. Some authors could learn from this trilogy *cough veronica roth cough*

    "Amazingly Great 3rd Book!!!!"

First book, was ok.. second book was much better, 3rd book was amazing!!!!

Not like other trilogies out there, its usually the 1st book which is best, but nooo this one had a different order to it.. the best is this one, the 2nd is the 2nd book and the 3rd is the first book... I have assumed that Champion will have a similar ending to other trilogies, what i mean by this a boring ending, the usual ending, but NOPE!!!! It was refreshing to have a different ending, a good and a great one, but still refreshing!!!

Day and June had a lot of challenges in this book, and they were not all the same challenges, plus too many questions get answered here too. Whats great as well is seeing the changes in Day's life, from a criminal to a famous guy loved and wanted by everyone.

    Narration was good as usual!

Marie Lu is a talented author and a refreshing one. looking forward for her next work.

    "Amazing Ending."

Fantastic series and a good way to end. The only complaint is needing more of the third story line in the last few chapters.

"Well that was not AT ALL what I expected"
Would you consider the audio edition of Champion to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version.

What did you like best about this story?

The freshness that it has despite being a tried story line.

What about Steven Kaplan and Mariel Stern ’s performance did you like?

They played well against on another. It was easy to believe.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I was disappointed when I arrived home before finishing the book. I had to wait til the next day to finish it.

    Any additional comments?

This series has a unique twist ( more than one actually ) so be prepared to have your conclusions challenged and love it when they are.
