Publisher's summary

In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires...their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House - Michael, Eve, Shane, and Claire - to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever. Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance, and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet.

New reader

Where does Black Dawn rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Love all the books. It gets a 10

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mernin. He is lovable, yet scary.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I love the story, but I preferred the last reader. Her voices for each character was great and you knew who was talking. Angela speaks too low for the men's voices and can't hear them, especially when listening in the car.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Vampires in a small west Texas town

Any additional comments?

Bring back Cynthia to read these novels, PLEASE.

Narrator is awful

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, have it read by a different narrator.

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe’s performance?

Terrible. She should have listened to some of the other books in this series and at least tried to pronounce the names of the characters the same. She talked to slow and paused to much between the words and sentences. I listened to the last 3\4 of the book at 2 times normal speed. She ruined the book for me. I don't feel like I've had a nice visit with my friends from Morganville, I feel like I have endoured a forced visit. I would have not even bothered listening but I wanted to know where the story went.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

The whole series as a movie, yes I would go see it.

Any additional comments?

Narrator changes during a series, MAKE SURE THE NEW NARRATOR LISTENS TO PREVIOUS READINGS AND CAN AT LEAST PRONOUNCE THE NAMES THE SAME AS PREVIOUS NARRATORS AND MAKE SURE THE READING IS AS CLOSE TO PREVIOUS BOOKS AS POSSIBLE.

Black Dawn Review

I did not like the switch of narrator. A reader becomes used to a voice belonging to a character and a new narrator changes that. The biggest and worst change was Myrnin's voice. In the previous books his voice suited his crazy personality perfectly... now it doesn't at all.

change of narrator

I love these books but the change of narrator really dulls the book. I have tried to give this specific narrator many chances but I just can't get into her voice. It's very monotone.

Black Dawn, Book #13: What's more dangerous than vampires?

The vampires worst enemy, the draug, have invaded Morganville, killed many vamps, destroyed the town, and infected its leader, Amelie.

Great storyline in the Morganville saga, but I do miss the narrator (Cynthia Holloway) from the first 12 books. When Cynthia narrated,vI could tell which characters were "talking." The new narrator's voice goes very low when she is reading the parts when a character is "talking," making it hard to follow the story. I had to rewind a few times.

I'm invested in the story & still plan on listening to the last three books. 🤷

NARRATORS - Please Do your Research!

It's bad enough when books in a series change narrators (I HATE IT!), but down right pitiful when they don't take the time to research how the previous narrators pronounced names and terminology.

I'm begging publishers to care enough about your customers (the ones that keep you in business) to consider this when making decisions. Keep it simple and keep the same narrator, but if that's out of your control (which getting cheap IS within your control) at least make sure they pronounce the character names the same!

Thank You!

Bring back Cynthia!!

OMG the new narrator sucks!! She draws out words that doesn't need to be. She pronounces the names funny. I think its because she is trying to hide her accent. After 12 books with the same narrator how dare Tantor change it up. I would have rather they waited until Cynthia was available to do the Audio-book. This is such a shame and a wasted $20. Yup I didn't use a credit!!

New Narrater?

Rather disturbing after 11 books to have a new narrater, pronouncing names differently, giving everyone new accents with little differences in charactors voices except for being male or female. Cynthia Holloway did such a fantastic job, I was really let down with this new narrater. If not for Ms Caine's excellent story telling and already being 11 books into the series I would not have finished this book.

Awesome!!!!!

Would you listen to Black Dawn again? Why?

Yes, I enjoyed it as much as the others.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Black Dawn?

Merlin turning on Claire.

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really

Any additional comments?

I don't get why Claire needed to be tied up at the end.
