Publisher's summary

In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires...their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House - Michael, Eve, Shane, and Claire - to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever. Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance, and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet.

Definitely a slog....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, but because its part of the series. If it were the first book, I doubt I would have continued with the series. This is my very first review on Audible, by the way.

If you’ve listened to books by Rachel Caine before, how does this one compare?

I've really enjoyed the series thus far. But this one, Black Dawn and the previous one, were more of a chore. The story line was interesting, but it just seemed to drag on and on and on. There were parts of it that were drawn out way too far.....mainly the whole Shane fantasy part. Got really boring once you realized he was dreaming.
Im also not a huge fan of switching the point of view from character to character. At times, it seems ok, but not the whole book.

Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe – was your favorite?

Claire. And at least Mernon didnt sound like a little old lady. And at least she didnt pronounce costume like "coshtume." Overall, I thought Angela Dawe did an OK job. My husband said her tone was less annoying than the prior narrator.

Do you think Black Dawn needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

NOOOOOOOOOOO. It is too long as it is.

Any additional comments?

The author tends to repeat herself a lot. ......about why the founder chose the location for the town,.....by saying someone looked at someone like they'd "never seen her before".....
There are other examples that dont come to mind at the moment. Just little things that a content editor would surely have corrected, I would think.

I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS

What did you like best about Black Dawn? What did you like least?

I can't really get into it cause after 11 books by the same AuthorAuthor & same narrator THEY CHANGE THE NARRATOR SO I CAN'T TELL WHO IS WHO AS FAR AS CHARACTERS GO & SO I CAN'T GET INTO THE BOOK!!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

WISH I COULD TELL YOU!

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe’s performance?

I am just use to Cynthia Holloway so now NO ONE SOUNDS THE SAME & I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON!!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

YES!

Any additional comments?

PLEASE DON'T CHANGE NARRATORS IN A SERIES!

love this narration but...

Grinds on me how she drastically changed even and the vamp scientist. I have no clue why the old narrator had to change and I love this current narrator for other stories. I'll bare it bc I'm so far into the series. Only time a switch works is bc the 1st on sucks. NOT in this case.

the book is great but the narration.....

The story is great, but switching narrators after 11 books to somebody that doesn't pronounce the names the same way and is just all around annoying to listen to is kinda bad.

Switching performers in mid stream

It was difficult to get into Angela's interpretation of the characters after listening to the first ten books performed by Cynthia. When there is a series the performer should be the same for the entire series.

Disappointed in narration

This series is incredible. I read these when they first released and was captivated by the story telling. When I found them on Audible I was so excited. I’ve listened to all the books up to this one and was appalled to find they switched narrators. The characters no longer have personality, they all sound the same (cannot differentiate between characters anymore). Did she even read the books, or listen to them? Names are pronounced funky. This narrator sounds like the Dry Eyes guy. Highly suggest having Cynthia Holloway re-narrate these last few books. I’m struggling to get into this one. Very difficult to listen to. :(

did not like the narration so...

I did not like the narration of this book so I bought the paperbacks to finish the series. The narration of the book was too quick and the switch in between characters was minor like others had said that the narrator might have been trying to cover up an accent I wouldn't have minded the accent honestly.

I would not listen to another book narrated by Angela Dawe so now I can finish the series with the voices of the characters in my head. This is the only reason why I had an audible membership so I just canceled it almost made it through the series i wanted to.

"Bring back Cynthia Holloway!"

I am very happy with story so far, just in to chapter 4,,, Very unhappy about the narrator change. I am use to the way Cynthia did the voices of the different charactors in the book, and it is hard for me to be undistracted by the new narrator. I am sure she did the best that she could, but she completely change the Queen Vampire's name in her pronunciation of Amelie,, and it is very strange. I find it hard to believe that someone didn't catch it before they reIeased the book. I would, really really, Definitly, be overly greatfull if you would bring Cynthia Holloway back, Please.

Thank you,

I actually liked the narrator

Any additional comments?

I went straight from Last Breath to Black Dawn & initially was horrified to hear a different narrator. But after awhile I began to like that the characters were beginning to sound their age. I loved Cynthia Holloway, but admit that Angela is growing on me.

Good story but miss Cynthia.

What three words best describe Angela Dawe’s performance?

Ok. I really appreciate Angela Dawe in the Nalini Singh series, that is her series and she really shines. But I truly miss Cynthia Holloway.
Clare's voice sometimes sounds just like any of the male voices. It has been at times confusing who's speaking.
Learning to love the series with Ms. Holloway's style for the last 11 books, it will be difficult for the fans of the series to get use to Ms. Dawe voice.
Please bring back Cynthia Holloway.
