Jilly Cooper's legendary hero returns!

Rupert Campbell-Black, undefeated race-horse owner and handsomest man in the world, is in the darkest of places. His adored wife, Taggie, is about to undergo chemotherapy, his beloved horse Love Rat has died, and now his daughter Bianca wants him to buy a languishing local football club - a sport Rupert knows nothing about - so she can return to Rutshire with her football star husband.

Rupert's first impressions of Searston Rovers are distinctly unfavourable. But swayed by Bianca and Taggie, soon Rupert has signed the deal. As Searston's new owner, he won't stand for anything less than victory in the Premier League, despite the odds being stacked against him. With help from the club's ravishing and adorable secretary, Tember West, Rupert sets out to mastermind Searston's rise to the top, starting with taking charge of the players - much to the fury of Searston's manager.

The rival football club and their corrupt dealings aren't going to make it easy for him either - and they have a history of foul play. Let the sabotage and scandal begin...

Rupert and the gang are back!

I was so excited to discover yet another entertaining installment of the Rutshire Chronicles by Jilly Cooper! I never expected to read another book in this series, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it on Audible. If you have read the first 10 books in the series, you will be well acquainted with most of the characters, but be prepared to meet a new ensemble of characters in the form of a ragtag football (American soccer) team that needs both emotional and financial support from Rupert Campbell-Black, of all people. It is so wonderful to see characters evolve over the last several decades and watch RCB become a grandfather again and again. I sincerely hope this is not the end of this series, Jilly, please write 10 more!

Glad to continue the story of RCB

It was a little wordy on the “football” descriptions. I missed RCB being with horses , as he should. But I’m still going to reread (listen) to the entire series. I have been reading Jilly Cooper and enjoying RCB and his exploits since the ‘80s…we both have some age on us. But, I was lucky enough to be friends with a man who completely fit the description of RCB, who was kind, and very, very handsome, and whenever I picture RCB I think of J.

Nothing.

Not good at all. It was really a waste. It felt like a background noise rather than a catching story.
