Publisher's summary

Elliot Richardson thought he’d lost everything.

He’d come home from deployment to find his wife cheating on him, his sons strangers and his life in tatters. Driving away, unsure where he was going, he fell through an interdimensional rift and found himself in a very different world, a city of magic and mystery and dangers beyond his comprehension, a land spinning out of control. Innovations from the distant west unsettle the monarchy and challenge the position of the aristocrats and warlords who hold the kingdom in their grasp.

Powerless and alone, with no way home, Elliot struggles to survive long enough to make a new life. But as war looms on the horizon, he finds himself forced to use his skills to make a name for himself, all too aware that the slightest slip will mean instant death–or worse.

Note: You do not need to have listened to the Schooled in Magic series to follow this story, as it is largely disconnected from the original books, but–if you have been following the series–Stuck in Magic starts shortly after Oathkeeper.

Not as good as the others

I usually love all of his books but this one was my least favorite by far. I didn't get pulled in the story like usual and at the end didn't get enticed to immediately get the next one. Eh

very down to earth in describing how to survive.

Cultural differences are very visible, and luck provides a way to survive. I look forward to the next book.

Great new story in the nameless world

MC has very different challenges from Emily and the results are in many ways more satisfying.

I hope they meet someday but only after a chance to let this MC establish himself.

Enjoyed the expansion of the existing world

I’ve really enjoyed the series and tried out this side story. The world is familiar based on the prior series. It is interesting to gets different view from someone else with entirely different circumstances. The reason for a rating of 4 is that a few story portions I felt were redundant or odd characters choices, comments, actions. Thoroughly enjoyed the story and will see if the next is available.

Not his best work

Never captured me like his other story lines have in the past as such this is not his best work.

Like the different approaches

Taking a look at the unnamed world from a different set of eye and different mindset has added more depth to the world the stories that has come from it.
