Publisher's summary

Sixteen-year-old Jimi knows people change, but nothing could prepare her for what's about to happen to her best friend, Del. Del is obsessed with becoming a chimera: a person who pays back-alley geneticists, known as "genies", to illegally splice animal genes into their own. The resulting physical changes have scared lawmakers into drafting legislation declaring chimeras officially nonpersons, so when Del goes missing, Jimi is desperate to find him before he alters himself forever.

As she tries to save him, Jimi must face down unscrupulous people and risk her own life, all while knowing that if getting spliced is the choice Del has made, it means he's leaving her behind forever.

Unique Alternate Universe Type Deal

I truly enjoyed it, hoping to find out if there are any more books after or before this story to hear more about the characters and thier lives! the narrator sounds like a bored teenager but that actually fits pretty perfectly with the the main character and her story. interested to find more out about this splicing, and how it's done and the different creatures that are created. DEFINITELY worth a listen

Very good audiobook

Loved the story. Gives pause to thought on many levels. Very well written! However, it leaves the listener hanging in the closing chapter. What happened with the Aunt Jimmy is named after and what is Rough’s story???????? Everything else is great!

what I thought

loved it. Spliced was full of feelings and I really loved how it all came together at the end .I also liked how it left you with a question at the end .I also started falling for Rex throughout the book.

Good YA book

A good story with very relevant moral dilemmas for youth- and for us all. Great narrator.

Loved this book

Predictable a little but it was still great. There were a couple of times it caught me off guard though so I would still recommend it 🙂

Great story! boring. narrator.

I can't bring myself to pay money for the next part of the series even though we're really enjoyed the basis of the story. The narrator feels tired and bored and has very little expression to her voice throughout the story to the point where I was struggling to continue on.

Spliced

Wow, what a different and fun read. Could you just imagine what you could be spliced with?? Would you do it, if you could? Jimi and Del have been friends forever. Del has had a hard life, with a violent father. Their friendship is put to the test when Del gets spliced. Out of the horrors, comes new friends and even an old one. Can one love a Spliced??

Good story

Wow. This author is very creative. The main character, Jimmi, is a young teen girl who finds herself thrust into the position of becoming the heroine of this story. The choice she has is either that, or turn away and ignore an evil that she has observed. Really, this could happen to any of us, so it’s nice to read about one who is brave enough to do the right thing in spite of the consequences.

Many youth are getting a genetic mod of some kind. There are groups of people trying to have them labeled ‘non-persons’ as a result of their non-100% pure ‘human’ genome. The story gets much deeper that that. Jimmi sees some of the surface level discrimination and can’t run away from it. The more she stands up for her friends and their rights, the more secrets she uncovers.

The book has some profanity, but was clean of sexual content. I gave it four stars because the story didn’t keep me interested until I was about 3/4 of the way through. The first part was a little slow. Regardless, I think I’ll listen to it again sometime.
