Beware of your friends

I like stories where the main protagonist, in this case Nick Day, finds himself in a corner facing trouble wherever he goes. Interesting elements in this one, including betrayal, deceit, and money laundering which I found fascinating. A story where the motto of looking out for your friends more than your enemies is quite true.

High quality novel with high intensity

Another thriller to listen to on dark nights. The author has an unusual style but all the more interesting for it. Intense, no, very intense at times. The main character Nick Day is very believable showing both grit yet a vulnerability that pulls you in. Fine writing, good story.

Impressive

I am a fan of science fiction and I tend to listen to science fiction audio books mostly, and I was looking for a change so decided to pick this audio book from suspense thriller, and must this book impressed me a lot, the story is thrilling and Nick the protagonist is a character that I would be glad to see on a movie screen, for any suspense thriller the writing skills of the author plays an important role, because even if the story is full of suspense but if the author cannot contain the suspense for the right moment then the story does not impress, but I must say that Elizabeth Hamilton-Smyth was able to write in a way that she was able to contain and release the suspense at the right moment, which made the story suspenseful and made this audio book an impressive listen.

So dark

A main character you love to hate, action, emotions, a morale, a love story, more than a few crimes snd quite a bit of blood. This comedy of errors has so many elements that fit together well... something for everyone but the very squimish.

Moderate violence (nothing too explicit), sex is implied but not ‘shown’ making it quite tasteful to a pg-13 level. Some bad language but not a lot. Themes of suicide, mental illness, child abandonment and death of a parent.

The narrator varied tone and pace in line with the mood of the scene, heightening drama very effectively.

Impressed with the writing style of the author

This was my first book from Elizabeth Hamilton-Smyth so I was not aware with her style of writing, but as I continued listening to this audio book, I started to like the way she twist and turn the story, liked the way she wrote the character of Nick and at some places listeners can easily feel for Nick, the book is full of surprising twists and the ending also does not fail to impress.

For any thriller the narration also plays an important role, James Meunier was able to narrate the audiobook nicely.

A good British thriller

High quality writing full of intrigue. A gripping book to listen to, with slick writing and a plot that intrigues. The main character Nick Day against an old friend who blackmails him. I won't spoil the details of the book but just want to say it’s a highly recommendable book. Lovers of the British thriller scene should particularly enjoy it.

Nice narration

For any audio book narration plays an important role and for fiction it plays an even important role, the narrator James Meunier was able to adjust his voice according the need of the situation which made the book interesting to listen, the story is intriguing and full of suspense and the nice narration makes the audio book even more easier to follow.

Dark Thriller

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I love the way the author writes. She is not predictable at all. There were lots of twists and turns before you got to the end. It was actually quite beautifully written.
The sexual aspect of this book was very PG-13 which is what I prefer in thrillers. I was very impressed with this book and the narrator got the characters spot-on. Well done!
