Publisher's summary

Set in Colonial New England, Slewfoot is a tale of magic and mystery, of triumph and terror as only dark fantasist Brom can tell it.

Connecticut, 1666.

An ancient spirit awakens in a dark wood. The wildfolk call him Father, slayer, protector.

The colonists call him Slewfoot, demon, devil.

To Abitha, a recently widowed outcast, alone and vulnerable in her pious village, he is the only one she can turn to for help.

Together, they ignite a battle between pagan and Puritan - one that threatens to destroy the entire village, leaving nothing but ashes and bloodshed in their wake.

“If it is a devil you seek, then it is a devil you shall have!”

Critic reviews

"Which is worse? The Devil of the forest or the terror of Puritan village rumors, accusations, and lies? At the crossroads of victimhood and vengeance, Abitha makes her choice - and blood follows." (Richard Kadrey, New York Times best-selling author of the Sandman Slim series)

"I loved this book. A roaring, bloody, beautiful work of pure imagination." (Andy Davidson, author of The Boatman's Daughter)

"Punctuated by moments of unanticipated levity as well as unmitigated terror, this clever and imaginative tale is not to be missed by fans of dark fantasy and historical horror." (Library Journal)

Another Great book by Brom

Such a good read it really pulled you in the narrative. which is good and bad since no one likes feeling helpless...

I do wonder sometimes who hurt Brom to make him write such wonderfully dark things that strike to the core the way they do.

Brom is amazing!

I started with one of Broms other book Lost Gods, and after this one I'm hooked on all his writing. Amazing world's and story almost as if they could be real, in another time.

Refreshing and captivating!

Its been a long time since a story has enveloped me, thank you thank you thank you Brom! I thoroughly enjoyed part fairytale, part theology intertwined with witchcraft prosecutions. Barrie Kreinik was outstanding! You could not find a more perfect narrator. What a true artist. I was enthralled with her voice.

Broms done it again

What, this book asks, would happen if everything the puritans were afraid of was true?

better than I'd hoped for!

The narration is perfect. The story has a bit of a slow start but it did not disappoint. If you liked The VVitch this is the Halloween read for you.

Thought Provoking Brilliance

The narrator was amazing and really brought the story to life. Brom's stories always blur the line between good and evil tk show that everything lives in balance.
