Is your life in a mess? Can't figure out why things aren't working for you? This book has the answers for you. Enjoy!
I'm not a "Self Help Book" kind of person but this book is GREAT! This book will change your thinking, your attitude, YOUR LIFE! Joel made me reevaluate my relationship with God and gave me a totally new perspective about where I am, where I want to go, and how God is going to help me get there.
I have about 150 differant audio books and motivational teachings that I have collected over the years. I have to say this is on of the top 5 in my collection, one that I will listen to many many times over. I highly recomend this audio book and know it will be one of your best investments this year.
By far the BEST I have heard to date (9/2007) Filled with sound advice to apply to your life, Very uplifting with suggestions to use for everyday life, Whether you are searching for a better life or already have it all, this is equally good for advancing through all walls of difficulty.
Simple, practical, amazing! This is book will surely touch your heart, mind and spirit. I know, 'coz I have experienced it.
I have listened to this over and over again and loaned my CD to others. I believe this is my favorite audio book to listen to. I always feel so much better and empowered after listening. Thanks Joel for everything you give to those willing to listen.
The author encourages us to expect more out of life, as God intended us to prosper and to be happy. His southern pastorial voice is calming and leads us to listen to his message of health and wealth.
There is so much negativism in this world, Joel is a breath of fresh air and made me realize that I don't have to feel guilty when I am successful or damned when I have struggles. Pastor Osteen pleads with the reader to not only seek the best, but to plan for the highest goals. He tells us that God's plans for us are far greater than we can even imagine, so he asks: why do we expect so little? Although I have countless books on my IPOD, I find myself regularly listening to Joel Osteen for encouragement and confidence that I am right to expect the best in my life. I cannot recommend this book more highly!
Joel Osteen is a gifted preacher and storyteller. He does a great job in his sermons and really can capture an audience while preaching. He truly will help the current and next generation into accepting Christ and learning about the church.
The book overall was decent, though at times I sort of questioned his scenarios...they almost seemed too coincidental in making his point.
An example: He talks about walking in his neighborhood with his wife, Victoria and walking into a house that was being built and feeling inspired that one day he will live in such a house...so, he felt comfortable walking into a strangers house that was being built w/ his wife??? As a preacher or heck, as a human being, wouldn't he feel guilty about trespassing on someone's property?
But overall, an inspiring story. I don't believe his accent is too thick at all and overall was easy to follow. I listen to the final disc over and over about how we really need to do our best in life and God will handle the rest. Good job!
The book's main message of being positive, is a source of strength. But some parts, such as God assigning preferential treatment to his children in materialistic and lavish ways ( as in his example of being re-assigned a First Class seat on the airplane), gives Christianity the reputation of being a snobbish me-first faith. This is contrary to the scriptures where our blessings are heavenly treasures instead of earthy ones. Joel seems to have forgotten the verses such as "the last shall be first and the first shall be last" which cultivate a spirit of humility and hope in the eternal rewards which are worth far more than anything this life can offer. And one has to ask the question, "What about those who are not traveling a First Class lifestyle?" Are they somehow less preferred by God? These are the dangerous implications of a prosperity gospel. But the book did have a lot of good reminders of being positive and I give it three stars because of that!
I disliked this audiobook as it felt really insincere compared to what a true Christian's "Best Life" should be - made God feel like a genie who is ready to do anything you ask, when in reality it is not like that and trying to believe such a concept through this audiobook's repetitiveness that it is so, is just uncomfortable.
