A poet like David Whyte turns words into transcendent vehicles for spirit. With What to Remember When Waking, this celebrated writer and teacher reveals how our reality is created through conversation with the universe - and how we can create an identity robust enough to meet life's gifts and demands.
On this new six hour audio-learning course, Whyte tells us how to live at the frontier between the spiritual and physical needs of everyday life; how deeper states of attention amd intention can transform our own identity; and how we become more courageous. more present to the deeper understanding of ourselves, our loved ones and our world.

David Whyte's reading is what makes this so special.
It has -quite simply- redefined audiobooks for me.
Unlike so many authors or narrators, he doesn't just read, he tells a tale.
His voice is calming and penetrating to listen to.
The content is stunning and deep.
Before purchasing this book, I used audiobooks when reading was not an option- while driving or doing the dishes. It always felt like a compromise. For this book, listening to it made for a more heightened experience than reading it would have.
It offers, in my opinion, the best of what an experience of an audiobook can be.
I highly recommend it.
Whyte shows a different connection to life and the world around us that I absolutely needed to hear. Mistook this book for a compilation of his poetry-which in a way it is- but, it is soo much more than just that.
I did not like the format of this presentation compared to other David Whyte CD's I have heard, in which he recites poetry on a theme and weaves it together with commentary -- generally in front of a live audience. This presentation was more like a long talk interspersed with poetry here and there. He sounded weary and uninspired.
I was captivated by several of the newer poems, particularly "My Daughter Asleep." However, I would not purchase another program of this length by DW, preferring to return to the live-recorded CD's available through his website.
Whyte has a unique voice and perspective, and I've really enjoyed listening to him. This is definitely a situation where the audio book delivers more than I'd get just reading the book on my own.
It stirred in my heart such a longing to be silent and to be friends with the unknown. David whyte is an incredible story teller and teacher. Thank you.
David will help you remember yourself, and the questions that arise naturally in the process. He is a great storyteller, teacher, and poet.
David Whyte provides that intangible lift that the stresses and strains of everyday existence have a tendency to drown out. I look forward to easing into his poetry and philosophy as I untangle my life upon waking. Thank you for taking the greatest risk of all and sharing your whole self with us. Always grateful.
Very deep and thought provoking. His personal reflections added to the story and a better understanding of his poetry. The reflection on his mother touched me. It allowed me to open up to other thoughts of loved ones who have passed.
Thank you for having David narrate his own book. It provides much more meaning.
