Great book, narration a little hard to bear

I thought the material is great. The Audiobook is short the material from the revised edition. But that’s manageable.

The narrator is slow and his voice is gravelly which is painful to listen to when demonstrating whining. Not impossible to get through.

I think the timeouts are being disproven in general but those moments can be changed to more interactive learning sessions that seem to be more constructive w my strong willed 3 year old - he wants to be included not pushed away.

Great book and great performance

After listening "Never be sick again" also excellently performed by Alan Sklar, I searched for other audiobooks performed by him.
This was the one I chose, and I was very lucky!!
Not only the performance was excellent, the content largely surpassed my expectations.
The book is plenty of examples, which makes it entertaining, funny, in parts emotive and very profound.
Thank you both Robert MacKenzie and Alan Sklar for this great job!

Yes. I have already listened to it twice. I know that this book will be at the top of my listening list. Each time I listen, I pick up new points that I missed before.

This book produced immediate results both in me and my strong willed child. It was amazing the change.

Great jumping off point

Wish it went into more detail about aggression and anger in children but I think overall it is a solid read and if the strategies are applied with children who do not have true social or mental disabilities or disorders, it works

Simple but effective

Simple techniques add a consequence to any request basically but I wasn't doing it and just talking like based on the how to talk book was not working. This works

This is the first book I have read that outlines the problems AND the solutions step by step, no matter if you have a compliant or strong willed child, if you are a parent this is for you.I found this book to be the instructions on How to be a good parent! If you want to help new parents or struggling parents give them this book.If you feel you cant connect to your child because it seams you are not speaking the same language, this book will make you understand why and best of all how to change it step by step. Its a life saver! you will understand once and for all your child's behavior and the best of all embrace it and love him even more when you see him progress. I have read this book 3 times already just because I need to be reminded or encouraged or redirected back to a good parenting.I have applied the strategies here with both of my sons: the compliant (which was easy of course) and the strong willed (which worked miracles!). I have seen my son transform before my eyes! No more yelling and frustration, if I feel that something is not working I go back to the book and find the problem and apply a solution. this book has changed my life and my kids life! no more angry mom everyday. Now they know the drill: 1) Calm voice clear message 2) Either they obey or take the consequence and then obey (lol) they are learning really fast to obey without the consequence = Happy proud mommy!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child?

When I accepted the fact that my strong willed child's job is to test over and over and over and mine as a parent who knows better to guide him to take better choices, that changed my life.Also when I understood finally my sons character and I felt I could finally communicate with him in a way that would bring results, that gave me hope and motivated me to keep on trying. Now I see the results and love my son more than ever! appreciate his unique character and embrace his stubbornness! (yea I know! I never thought I would say that either! If you have one you know what I mean!)

Which character – as performed by Alan Sklar – was your favorite?

I love the way he changed the tone of voice making stories come to life.

This book is full of examples and that is awesome cause not only you can identify with the example but it tells you how to apply in real situations the techniques you are learning. I also loved the fact that on the examples it tells you what the parent is doing wrong and not only that but how to fix it step by step.
I found super helpful the guide of techniques by age and the reference on the chapters that you should go back to for each age/stage.

Great audiobook, I definitely would recommend

I have learned some very valuable tools to help with discipline for my strong willed daughter. I have already been working on the suggestions in this book and it's working!

The only downside to the audio book is that it doesn't come with the exhibits. Other than that, thank you Mr. MacKenzie and Sklar!!!

What did you love best about Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child?

All of the different examples of how the strong willed child acts and the different roll plays of how you should respond to each strong willed child's act. This helped extremely!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child?

"The Dance". This hit home for me. My 5 yr. old is constantly trying to talk his way out of things. I assumed he would turn out to be a great attorney :) This book is the only reason I have learned to put a stop to "The Dance" which was so exhausting!

Every day that I woke up and every night that went to bed I stressed over how I could get my child to listen. I did not understand what I was doing wrong. I thought I was faulted for my parenting skills. This book lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. It gave me a greater understanding off my strong willed child's thought processes which in turn helped me understand the author's approach. And his approach for my son's strong-willedness was spot on! At the end of the day the author taught me how to be consistent and to the point. You can hear those words and think I don't need a book, I can do that. But, the book provides so many examples of approaches on almost every situation which gives you an amazing head start!
