"Very good advice ... hard to listen, but worth it"
Would you be willing to try another book from Robert J. MacKenzie? Why or why not?

The content was good and I think overall it gives you tools to be a better parent. In my case, I'm a father, I don't have that big of a problem with any of my kids but the themes discussed here are very applicable.

I've already had a chance to apply these things in real life, and they work! I feel so happy to handle a situation very different of the ways I'd have used in the past, and obtained the desired results: kids do better, I feel much better, and we all communicate better at the end.

What three words best describe Alan Sklar’s performance?

I've read reviews where they criticize the narrator and for me it has never been an issue... but for this particular book I felt some tension and I felt that the voice didn't help. I can say that I was tired while reading the book, I think the narrator has a good voice, but it's just that the book was slower and it felt monotonous, repetitive ... I've been on the other side, also tired and hearing a super cheerful voice but didn't like it either. I'd have preferred a different voice, less deep.

    Any additional comments?

I almost stopped hearing the audiobook, but I'm glad I finished it. It does have good applicable content. In my case it was a hard listen, but in the end I'd totally recommend if you have a strong-willed child.

"Finally - advice that works for hard cases!"

The advice in this book is the only advice I've gotten from a parenting book (and I've read quite a few) that has been effective almost from the moment I started to try it out with my strong-willed daughter.

It espouses, among other things, time-outs and natural consequences which are frowned upon by the more modern books I've read. But it stresses that this type of discipline must NOT be meted out in a punitive, angry, or mean-spirited way. And that, I believe, keeps this kind of effective discipline from crossing the line into cruelty.

I HIGHLY recommend this book if you have a strong-willed child. But do read other, newer books that set out very different but still very valuable approaches. No one book has all the answers or the one right approach, but this one works both well and fairly quickly with the kids who are less naturally compliant.

Note that it's approach might be a bit over-the-top for compliant children. Still, meaning what you say and using less words with compliant children probably won't hurt...

    "Much needed advice!"
Would you listen to Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child again? Why?

I am already half way through listening to this book a second time! It is packed full of information and I am only beginning to put Roberts advice into action! I am so thankful for this book!

What does Alan Sklar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Alan is a great narrator and helped bring the book to life!

What did you learn from Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child that you would use in your daily life?

I often find myself becoming angry with my children and losing my temper! I have found that by keeping cool and just setting boundaries as Author Robert MacKenzie advises, my children are able to make good choices or live with the consequences of their bad choice! No reason for me to become angry! (I am still working on this!)

    Any additional comments?

An outstanding book for all parents, not just parents of strong willed children, since all children need to have boundaries! I have recommended this book to many of my friends and will continue to tell people about this book and its great advise! Thank you Robert MacKenzie! God Bless you!

"Instructions step to step for parents"
Would you listen to Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child again? Why?

This is the first book I have read that outlines the problems AND the solutions step by step, no matter if you have a compliant or strong willed child, if you are a parent this is for you.I found this book to be the instructions on How to be a good parent! If you want to help new parents or struggling parents give them this book.If you feel you cant connect to your child because it seams you are not speaking the same language, this book will make you understand why and best of all how to change it step by step. Its a life saver! you will understand once and for all your child's behavior and the best of all embrace it and love him even more when you see him progress. I have read this book 3 times already just because I need to be reminded or encouraged or redirected back to a good parenting.I have applied the strategies here with both of my sons: the compliant (which was easy of course) and the strong willed (which worked miracles!). I have seen my son transform before my eyes! No more yelling and frustration, if I feel that something is not working I go back to the book and find the problem and apply a solution. this book has changed my life and my kids life! no more angry mom everyday. Now they know the drill: 1) Calm voice clear message 2) Either they obey or take the consequence and then obey (lol) they are learning really fast to obey without the consequence = Happy proud mommy!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child?

When I accepted the fact that my strong willed child's job is to test over and over and over and mine as a parent who knows better to guide him to take better choices, that changed my life. Also when I understood finally my sons character and I felt I could finally communicate with him in a way that would bring results, that gave me hope and motivated me to keep on trying. Now I see the results and love my son more than ever! appreciate his unique character and embrace his stubbornness! (yea I know! I never thought I would say that either! If you have one you know what I mean!)

Which character – as performed by Alan Sklar – was your favorite?

I love the way he changed the tone of voice making stories come to life.

    Any additional comments?

This book is full of examples and that is awesome cause not only you can identify with the example but it tells you how to apply in real situations the techniques you are learning. I also loved the fact that on the examples it tells you what the parent is doing wrong and not only that but how to fix it step by step.
I found super helpful the guide of techniques by age and the reference on the chapters that you should go back to for each age/stage.

"Really Good Tools for teaching your child"
If you could sum up Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child in three words, what would they be?

I found this book to be very helpful. I even tried some of the techniques with great results. I come from the southern way of discipline and the tools illustrated in this book are more effective.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    N/A

What does Alan Sklar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He voice was very soothing and clear. I felt like he was teaching me with patience and understanding.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction but I did have quite a few "AH-HA" moments.

    "Great book and great performance"

After listening "Never be sick again" also excellently performed by Alan Sklar, I searched for other audiobooks performed by him.
This was the one I chose, and I was very lucky!!
Not only the performance was excellent, the content largely surpassed my expectations.
The book is plenty of examples, which makes it entertaining, funny, in parts emotive and very profound.
Thank you both Robert MacKenzie and Alan Sklar for this great job!
