Publisher's summary

“Napoleon Hill was one of America’s great, influential thinkers who continues to have an enormous impact today.” - Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine

Bestselling author Napoleon Hill reveals the seven principles of good that allow us to triumph over obstacles...and find success.

Using his legendary ability to get to the root of human potential, Napoleon Hill digs deep to reveal how fear, procrastination, anger, and jealousy prevent us from realizing our personal goals. This long-suppressed parable, once considered too controversial to publish, was written by Hill in 1938 following the publication of his classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich. Annotated and edited for a contemporary audience by Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Three Feet from Gold coauthor Sharon Lechter, this book is profound, powerful, resonant, and rich with insight.

Critic reviews

"My simple faith is this: If we are created in God’s image, then we were born to create, and to create is to prosper. [This] previously unpublished Napoleon Hill manuscript.... I’ve read it and recommend it." (Rich Karlgaard, Publisher of Forbes magazine)

a must! we need to embody these lessons today!! Everything in here is applicable to everything going on in 2024. we are in the same cycle that Napoleon Hill and the devil describe when this book was written. these lessons and keys and warnings are how we break free from the cycles as a society and is individuals

This book is still very relevant for today

The 7 principles outlined in the book to outwit the devil.

1. Definiteness of purpose. Decide on your purpose... a grand aspiration, a monster goal, and move towards it with ruthless abandonment.
2. Mastery over self. Discipline equals freedom. If you're driven by impulse all your life, you'll go nowhere, like a drifter.
3. Learning from adversity. Failures are just failures. Whether you learn from them or let them stop you is up to you.
4. Controlling environmental influence. Who you spend time with matters. What your room looks like matters. What your car looks like matters.
5. Time. Time can make drifting and negativity permanent. But it can also make positivity and wisdom permanent.
6. Harmony. In order for you to balance mental, spiritual, and physical aspects of your life, you must be the main actor.
7. Caution. Always act. But always think before you act.
Hill tells us, "Don't allow setbacks to turn into

Delete Sharon Lechter

Where does Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the top, if not the top. I listened to it following "Think and Grow Rich"

What was one of the most memorable moments of Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil?

The voice and subtle humor of the devil.

What three words best describe Dan John Miller and Phil Gigante ’s voice?

Great.

Any additional comments?

Sharon Lechter's interruption every 5 minutes is very distracting so I deleted them (see below). She just repeats what Hill said, added her opinion and then asked a question that made you feel like you were in a primary school classroom. Sharon may have had good intentions with her commentary but it does not add value.

After listening to the book for 20-30 minutes I decided to delete all her parts. After this, I could get immersed in the book and take in the content. This was impossible with Sharon Lechter's interruptions.

I used Audacity to delete Sharon Lechter's segments. They are relatively easy to see because there is a clear gap between the her sound bites and the other narrators. This took me 1-2 hours but it saved me about 60 minutes in listening time. Unfortunately I couldn't use Audibles app to listen to the edited mp3s so I used another app.

Consider doing this, it's a much better experience. The publishers should consider releasing a version without the commentary.

Great Book, Annoyinig Editor!!!

The outline and flow was perfect by Napoleon Hill. The editor's constant "but ins" to say the least, just to give her opinion or explain what Mr. Hill meant could have been omitted. Outstanding interview with the devil!

THIS BOOK IS A 20 ON A SCALE OF 1-10

If you could sum up Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil in three words, what would they be?

Thought provoking, inspiring, I saw myself in his words. I have changed because of it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Napoleon of course. He was concise, highly prepared, relentless, and always probing for the answer. I was amazed at the questions, and the answers from the

What did you learn from Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil that you would use in your daily life?

That I can change. I can stop being a drifter even if it is day by day, step by step. And thru these changes I can begin to live my life, with zest, direction and freedom. What a wonderful gift Napoleon has given us. This whole world needs the message of this book.

Any additional comments?

Only that I have recommended this book to at least 15 of my friends and my biggest wish is that they do the same and the message begins to spread. It is GOOD news and people need to know there is hope.
The narrators were superb. The voices were compelling, especially the Devil. Very very well done and something you could listen to time and time again. Give up that next Starbucks with cookie and just GET this book. It is a marvel.
