The book does a good job of explaining the basics of home buying in a chronological order that makes sense to the reader or listener. Highly recommended for those simply trying to understand how the process works.
It gives you phone numbers to call, checklist questions and financial equations to apply to your situation. It covers things throughly, but doesn't seem to cover everything that it could. While it wasn't as insightful and helpful as I had hoped, I don't feel it was a waste of money.
The first reader's voice is somewhat dry, while the second reader's voice is more tolerable.
There is a lot of advice about looking up information in the phone book. Really?
Otherwise, it's good standard dummies fare: clear, simple. Because of state laws, however, there are an unfortunate number of instances of "here's the info, however it can be locale dependent, so do further research to determine the real story."
I am an environmental engineer who loves history, physics, lectures, and thrillers.
I suppose the caveat will always be "it's for 'Dummies'" but I found the information in here to be minimally helpful. I did learn something so I won't give it a negative review, but I think you'd benefit more from some google searches than you will from purchasing this book.
they say that with an educational book, if you get at least one good nugget of information then it could easily pay for itself in just one sentence. This book has several of these "golden nuggets", that could easily pay for itself hundreds of times over!
This book missed the first important steps and went right to where the house is already purchased then ten bucks should be spent on this and that...
