Publisher's summary

Now more than ever, people are seeking a reprieve from the constant pressure to achieve, produce, and consume. While many turn to mindfulness and meditation, organizational change expert Marilyn Paul, PhD, offers a complementary solution that is as radical as it is ancient. Drawing on Sabbath history, contemporary research, and her own personal experience, Paul shows you how to design your weekly time off, carve out the time from your busy schedule, and, most importantly, change your mind-set so you can have the pleasure of regularly slowing down every week. From spending meaningful time in nature to creating a special, calming environment, Paul provides you with practical strategies for stepping off the treadmill whatever your religious beliefs. An Oasis in Time is a must-listen for anyone looking to live a calmer, richer, more fulfilling life.

Poor narrator, did not learn anything worthwhile

The subject really interested me and I have read similar books. Maybe I already understood or were exposed to these concepts previously. The narrator is pretty awful. She pronounces respite as re-spite. Fine, except it is used at least 40-50 times in the first half of the book. I could not make it past that point and returned it. Maybe worthwhile if you have never read something similar. If you can get past the narrator.

Ahhh, so needed!!!

This book gave me more insight into what the Sabbath truly is and how to keep or honor it than any of my other research. I also liked that the author didn’t focus only on the religious or spiritual benefits of the Sabbath, but on the overall far reaching benefit to taking a day of rest. As humans we are spirits, souls, and bodies. I will consult this book often. It is full of useful ideas and resources. I really enjoyed it.
