There are books of the same chemical composition as dynamite. The only difference is that a piece of dynamite explodes once, whereas a book explodes a thousand times. ― Yevgeny Zamyatin

    "Helpful and down-to-earth"

Phonetically and phonologically, manuals for actors teaching varieties of English use a more down-to-earth approach than serious linguistics books. Listening to the Accents Access series (I did them all) isn't a backbreaker. You can use it as a sort of extra material along with some other substantial books like International English by Peter Trudgill, which I recommend. The books did not fall short of my expectations. I found them entertaining and handy.
