Could have been a really good storyline, but the narration was absolutely cringeworthy

I really wanted to like this book, and perhaps in the hands of a different narrator, I might have. The performance was just terrible! Many mispronounced words and so many pauses where there shouldn’t be, it was just so hard to listen to. If I were the author, I’d be extremely angry with this performance. I’d like to try another book by this author, but if this narrator is involved, I won’t do it!!

Romance isn't really my bag!

I picked up this book, based solely on one of my Goodreads friend's dynamite review! Romance is definitely not my bag, but Dr Katelyn (Kat for short) sounded like the kind of woman I'd enjoy reading about... so against my better judgment, I quashed my reservations, and went ahead and purchased the book!
Unfortunately for me, the book didn't live up to my friends review, and despite the quite excellent narration, I never could connect with the characters. Sure, Kat was tough, and smart, but she was also terribly one-tracked at times, causing her to make obviously flawed decisions... and well, the other characters just didn't do it for me, either. I found the story interesting enough... it had sharp dialog, and plenty of action to keep the story moving along... but the sexually tense romance was Soooooo dragged out, and so slow of a burn, that by the time they got around "to it", I was already Way bored! Luckily that scene wasn't too explicit or drawn out... but...  Wooof. Finally, with sex outta the way, the author gamely got back to writing up the conclusion to her suspenseful tale!

Loved this book! The author masterfully wove an intriguing story that had me on the edge of my seat. Bravo Ms Montgomery!!!

Unexpected Twists

Enjoyable listen, filled with suspense, murder and love interest. Book lasted longer than needed. Ending had unexpected twists.

Good plot, but hard to listen to.

i liked the storyline and the plot, but I couldn't get past the narrators lack of proper pausing and inflections. It was very distracting and made the story line hard to follow. Why did he keep calling her HONEY, all the time? I kept yelling "stop calling her honey!". It was used inappropriately, too much and even after he dejected her. One last thing, an author is supposed to be descriptive, but too much is too much! Describe the scene and what is happening, dont just pepper in descriptors when not needed. "Her eyes were erect"? What?

Secrets and Lies doesn’t fail!

I’ve always been a fan of old fashioned “who dunnits”! Secrets and Lies doesn’t disappoint. Well written and keeps you guessing until the end. Oh, did I mention it’s also an old fashioned simmering love story?

Waiting for the movie

I don’t enjoy sappy romantic novels, and I don’t always want to hear the detailed description of a sexual encounter. This book is neither of those things. There was enough romance, mystery and action to keep me intrigued and entertained, while rooting for the love story.

The narration was awful!

The story line was a good one, and in the hands of the right narrator, this would have been a highly rated novel. The narrator had an odd cadence. Throughout the entire book there were mispronounced words and pauses every 4 or 5 words that were like commas in the middle of statements. It sounded like a dry run that should have been re-read for publication. I will never listen to this narrator again.

captivating and I trul enjoyed the read

At first I wasn't sure, since it started a bit slow, but I'm glad i didn't stop listening, it was captivating and I truly enjoyed the read,very good story line and wonderful ending.
