Publisher's summary

The masterpiece that started Terry Goodkind's New York Times bestselling epic Sword of Truth

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help...and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.

In a dark age it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the next victims. Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the best of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. Falling in love would destroy them - for reasons Richard can't imagine and Kahlan dare not say.

In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword - to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed...or that their time has run out.

Wizard's First Rule is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

Great Story with Good Lessons

This is my second time reading this series, and it is just as magical as it was the first time through. I'm not sure why the audio performer would use a voice like Chistopher Walken for one of the characters, but other than that the audiobook version was very good.

Must read fiction for any Truth Seeker

Great as a stand-alone novel, and also a great series. Remember your Wizards rules.

So Good

I went into this book a little apprehensive because it’s an older high fantasy book and generally when I’ve read books similar in the past I thought it too slow. This book however hooked me very quickly on. I had to buy it on audible so I could continue the story while driving or at the gym where I wasn’t able to whip out my physical copy. It’s excellent story telling and I can’t wait to dig into the next.

How True the Title of This Book

The fact that people are basically gullible is proven over and over in real life when you think about and apply the rule to everyday occurrences within your own life. Think about it.
I have read this book 3 times and I always learn something missed the previous readings...great story!

Great story can’t wait to start the next book. Slow pacing at first but really gets going after that.
