Publisher's Summary

In this riveting, ultrarealistic novel from J. L. Bourne, a man struggles to survive after the US infrastructure collapses and martial law engulfs the streets of America.

In the not-too-distant future, during an unacknowledged mission inside the Syrian border, a government operative unwittingly triggers an incredible event that alters the course of society. A terrible weapon has been unleashed - a weapon that, left to run its course, will destroy the moral fabric of humanity.

In the midst of crisis, the population struggles to survive in a world short on vital resources. Inflation cripples the US economy, and post-war armored military vehicles patrol the streets.

One man stands up to push back the overwhelming wave of tyranny triggered by the onset of nationwide martial law. How can he possibly succeed against a high-tech and tyrannical enemy that is hell-bent on ripping liberty from the pages of future history?

From the author and military expert who brought listeners the riveting horror series Day by Day Armageddon, Tomorrow War is a compelling account of an alternate dystopian America located just down the tracks of oblivion.

Very enjoyable for the train commute, drop in and out as you please. I would have liked the author to explore the collapse a little more. I enjoyed the narration.

"A story set in my home town"

I grew up and live in Northwest Arkansas. The book has the details of NWA down pat. Road names, the railroad bridge, the Confederate cemetery, the camouflaged cell tower are all real, and where and as described. Very few liberties were taken. For me, it made the story eerily realistic. Well done and a fun listen.

Great story pacing and character building. Plausible SHTF scenario, with a bit of over-the-top survivalist characters. (Could the boxcar dude REALLY exist? I mean...really?)

I like Military Sci-Fi, regular military and military history. I like sickening amounts of technical details about weapons and vehicles of combat. I love tactics and survival/scavaging. The Bolo! series is by far my favorite series. Keith L aumer, William H. Keith, and David Weber probably my favorite writters for the series. I also love Day by Day Armageddon trililogy.

Great story, really gets you thinking about whats going on now. Couldnt put it down. If you like JL's other books, Day by Day Armageddon then you will love this one as well. Great technical detail, great story and character development. Ready for the next book in either of his series!

I really liked this new story. A few things i would've done differently myself, but what a ride. Max "redacted" was a cool new character and I know there's going to be more. At least I hope so.

    "Entertaining"

Overall I really did like this book. It clipped along in a very engaging way. Good character development for a few key players, but others were extremely two dimensional. In certain spots it could have used a little more transition time- there were a lot of abrupt changes in plot that were very convenient.

There are aspects of the book that are *extremely* realistic and accurate- the guns, generalized tactics, likely reaction by the government. Other aspects... not so much. The best example I can think of is the Ultralight. I mean... come on. I know they exist, but in context it's ridiculous.

Huge portions of the book felt like a novelized instruction manual for armed resistance in a SHTF/EOTWAWKI scenario, along with being mildly propagandized. I didn't mind this at all, but some might find it tedious. There are some pretty heavy handed 'protect the constitution' passages as well which some might get tired of. But, once more, I was perfectly content.

Two or three brief parts make this a very R rated listen, just as a generalized heads up. Really bad (and originally unintentional) joke there, sorry.

Worth the listen I think. If you are way into SHTF scenarios/prepping/survivalist/or know what molon labe means, you'll love this. For most people this is something to save if you need some escapism or are short in your listening queue.

Oh, finally, there's about 30 seconds that qualifies this as a science fiction book, so if you're looking for even soft sci-fi, keep moving. Maybe the next installment will place it more in genre.

"Decent military end of the world story"

I like Bourne's style. Max Redacted (the main character) is a 'good old boy' with a sketchy past. He might have been a CIA or military covert agent at the start of this story. Actions he takes result in the end of the world as we know it. Everything falls to anarchy. And this story basically becomes a survivalist freedom fighting engagement.

I kind of like how Bourne leaves things. Unresolved. I'm not waiting for a sequel. It just feels to me like a good ending. Mysterious.

I am not sure about the story arc though. I felt like it came apart half way through. The bad guy was impersonal. Im not sure what was going on. Other than Max kicking some totalitarianism ass.

    "Enjoyed!"

I really enjoyed this book. This book is telling a story that could happen. And what might happen if it does. I enjoyed the narrators who I have not listened to before; but would again. My only very small dislike was the extremely long parts to the audio chapters. A lot of the books I listen to have shorter parts, 15-20 mins this book had 1 hour or so chapters. As I said extremely minor. nothing to do with the story or quality of the book.
