Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical martial-arts action.

The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler - the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years - has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.

As Kelsier's protégé and slayer of the Lord Ruler she is now venerated by a budding new religion, a distinction that makes her intensely uncomfortable. Even more worrying, the mists have begun behaving strangely since the Lord Ruler died, and seem to harbor a strange vaporous entity that haunts her.

Stopping assassins may keep Vin's Mistborn skills sharp, but it's the least of her problems.

Luthadel, the largest city of the former empire, doesn't run itself, and Vin and the other members of Kelsier's crew, who lead the revolution, must learn a whole new set of practical and political skills to help. It certainly won't get easier with three armies - one of them composed of ferocious giants - now vying to conquer the city, and no sign of the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium, the rarest and most powerful allomantic metal.

As the siege of Luthadel tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.

Great narrator, story dragged

There was a feeling of "military strategy" in this book. Three armies sit in an anxious stalemate, and so the reader does, too. It's effective in terms of building up suspense, but it drags on for 600 pages..... However, it's my experience that a lot of fantasy series tend to have what I call "build up" books. The purpose of these books is to give information to prepare the reader for the next book, which is usually action-packed. I love Sanderson and I'll still check out book 3. :)

Much longer and better than #1

This book has the benefit of having characters we've become familiar with and are attached to from the previous novel. It's a good, long story, and was much more satisfying than the first having more details about the Lord Ruler and the current Dominances outside of the capitol city.

The world feels bigger, more fleshed out and more realistic. The eery prophecy interrupting the main story is an excellent touch and is truly enjoyable.

9/10 for me. One of the best fantasy novels I've read.

Great

I'm reading these in order, so I have no idea how this one compares with the whole of the story, but I enjoyed it.

The narrator is a little rough, but it actually fits the theming I think.

The editing isn't very good however. It's all there, so it's not too bad. I just wish the chapters were represented properly.

Great follow up

As good as the first book in the series. Plenty of surprises, action, and twists. Enjoyed the continued character development and added characters as well.

Glad I decided to go on

I'm not really into the fantasy genre. I read the first book as part of a book club. I liked it, but didn't really have any strong feelings to continue.

However, the next year the sequel was selected as our next book club book, and I found myself feeling like I was going back to a place that I had grown fond of. I missed the characters, and I was happy to go forward with them.

Now I'm on to book three.

The reader is excellent, and the story is original. I recommend this series.

Great book

Loved the book. The narrator does an amazing job of keeping the different characters separate in your mind with different voices for each. The story itself sucks you in and makes you want to find out what is going to happen. I would get home after listening to the book and want to stay in the car to keep listening.
