The magic flames are raging. Blades are melting. Souls are reduced to ashes in the fury of battle. The grand finale of the war for the First Temple is upon us. The last trump cards have been played, the reserves are all exhausted, and even the gods have engaged in the plebeian fight. The universe is on the point of collapse. Broken are the chains that held the worlds together. The icy waters of the Baltic cool the scorching sands of the Frontier. The creatures of AlterWorld spill the first blood on the quiet streets of Earth's cities. What is Max to do? Become embittered and butcher his enemies? Seize the deserted castles and abandoned lands? Attempt to save the one who had given her life for him? Or try to win the jackpot by finding a way home, back to Earth?

I'm glad I got some sort of closure to the series but in my opinion this boom felt extremely rushed. I mean, previous books managed to go on for pages just explaining loot management. this one took a gigantic amount of unresolved plot and tied it up in the messiest bow I've ever seen. worth a read but don't expect too much.
I hate endings like this. It felt so rushed with so many questions unanswered. The final fight is something I wouldn't even call a fight. Seemed almost like d. Rus didn't know of how to end it and settled with whatever.
Max journeys to the rescue of those in the "Alpha" zone taking along his amassed army under the Dark Ones banner with a huge surprise at the end. I liked the story enough but there are some big issues.
The book picks up where the last picks up and is very entertaining for the first half. Max takes a small party into the Alpha zone to scout out the situation. Things get messy but are exciting. They even run into other games invading the alpha zone. After those events the story starts to jump around in the end. The story starts to feel rushed for the second half so that events could just happen and the book would end. Not that there are not key moments in the book, but the storytelling style changes. I wouldn't say I struggled to finish the audiobook, but I did have an issue following along at some points.
Another significant issue is the writer or translator mixing up characters all together. This is something that happened in past books but this time it was worse.
The ending was... interesting. Very cool, but it made it feel like there may be another book. The problem I have with that is that there is no point to another book. Max has the virtual world pretty much all under his banner and all his enemy's have been defeated. Rus would have to make new new threats in order to make more story. I think that most would agree; let this story end before it's ruined. I would like to see Rus do something new, but side story's on some characters would be epic.
This is NOT the best book in the series, I gave it 5 stars across the board because the first few books were fantastic. This series has become an all time favorite for me. Granted, it started strong, and got.. less good, along the way. Regardless, the world Rus created was incredible, the characters had depth, even the lesser ones. Overall, anyone who has made it this far in the series should go ahead and listen to the end. Anyone who is thinking about starting the series.. Do it! I love this series, and will probably re listen in a year or two.
