The story of the first Illeniel wizard continues.
Tyrion's life among the She'Har had become quiet, but the sins of his youth have returned to haunt him. The Mordan wardens have discovered one of his children, and the other groves are racing to find and claim the rest of his illegitimate offspring. Unable to stand by and watch as his children are used as pawns against one another, Tyrion makes a hard choice, one that will set him against everyone and everything he cares for. Others' love made his children strong, but his hate will make them powerful.

the story is full of conflict start to finish and can be a serious jumble of feelings. one criticism would be that the dialog is rather abrupt leaving out much of the natural flow you see in thought and speech as though facts are being presented without the experience. good action with detailed imagery in a good way.
I like Manning's books. It never fails I always loose track of the time when I'm reading his books. 😀 This book was just a bit slow for my taste. Hopefully his next one speed up....lol Keep up the good work Michael....you print it and I'll roll it up and smoke it. 😈 hehe jk
This book went by far too quickly. That would be my only complaint. The narrator did an amazing job bringing the book to life. The book remains fairly unpredictable and exciting. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in high fantasy. It should be noted that this series has material that leans towards a more mature audience. However it is very subtle in its application and can be palatable for a younger audience as well. I eagerly await book 3.
This is an awesome series to get into. The darkness the main character must go through is wonderfully different than any other book I have read. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next installment.
Love Heroic Epic Fantasy, don't appreciate slow monotonic voice acting. Dragons and Magic are good, myth-based and new myth plots - super.
Great, exiting, riveting.
It flows so beautifully, carrying on the story of the beginning of the universe of the Mageborn series. The author really captures the strains of emotion that flow through the story and brings it to life. One can really feel the love and hatred being churned about in the story. The arena fights are well crafted stories, no problem suspending belief and letting the 'new' reality wash over.
Alex voices the book such that it is simply a pleasure to audit the story.
Neither laughter nor crying, but a sense of involvement and deep emotional involvement.
This is a great read and I look forward to more of the same as the story progresses. Easily in the same league as David Gemmell and Joe Abercrombie!
Enchanting, Dark, (in parts) hope (as they triumph over their foes and themselves)
Very different writing style, different type of story line, very gripping and new.
Yes, the two sisters....! I was working and I had to stop and cry, actually weep it was so heart breaking.
This story is very good, very well written and moves at the perfect pace. It was hard to turn it off. I finished this one in two days as well as I did the first.
The main character begins to redeem himself through the hopeful changes his life takes. He struggles and plods ever onward and it is paying off as he works through his own past and learns to love again through his children. But a question, where did these abilities really come from? They are stronger than any of the She-Ha and there has to be something coming in the next book that explains this more fully? I hope?
I just loved the story so far, the darker aspects (that cannot be left out) are heart rending without spoiling anything, they are very necessary. But I am grateful the writer did not make it dirty at all, but yet you know what has happened, minus the detail. Thanks.
I would read these again within the year.
"Better than expected..."
Started slow. Became really good. Want more!
These additional words are a meaningless Audible requirement. Done.
"who does not love a bad guy"
i loved the idea that he falls into the anti hero charecter, you follow his path and think i could have done that, not thinking of the consequences
the matter of fact moment when the main character is called a rapist and he has to face up to what he has done, and that what he thought was harmless fun was much darker
i wish i could easily narrow it down to one
when he wants to help his daughter, but all he can do to help her is make her harder and more vicious
"Great sequel, picks up from previous book."
See it as 1 whole book from last book an this book. Style and story flow havent changed.
The darker side of fantasy written and performed masterfully. A true 'must read' for lovers of the genre.
"Becoming one of my favourite authors"
I love this series of books, and the narrator does a fantastic job. My own complaint is that these books just aren't long enough, I love them so much I just don't want them to end.
"this series is building"
after the building of the story and psychology in the first book I found this one to flow much better as a story. looking forward to book 3.
