Publisher's summary

He has fought the fight, and run the race. But the enemies never stop coming, and the race has no finish line. It has been three months since Captain Lee Harden found the survivors at Camp Ryder. With winter looming, Lee is on the verge of establishing Camp Ryder as a hub of safety and stability in the region. But not everyone agrees with Lee’s mission... or his methods. Growing tensions between camp leadership are coming to a head, and as Lee struggles amid the dissention and controversy, new revelations about the infected threaten to destroy everything he has worked for. The best so far

This is the best installment thus far. The pacing was much better and the plot felt less contrived.

keep going!

I'm not sure what the other reviews are talking about when they say this is like every other zombie apocalyptic book cause its just not. I really enjoyed this perspective, the Great story beyond just the hoards of zombies, the emotional external and internal struggles, the "no bullshit" approach by the author and his characters and the realism of the environment/situation/characters the author has created. I get annoyed any time I have to hit pause, the story ends and I'm sure I'll be annoyedwhen the series is over bc I just don't want it to end.

Intriguing

Almost made me hate the whole series when they shot Lee in the head. Other than that, it was a good listen to sit to drinking coffee, smoke breaks and spitting out the color of coffee on the ground.

I love this series

These books are full of adventure and suspense and I love how the "zombies" evolve throughout the series. The narrator is someone you can easily transition into listening to.

Best Book yet!!!

I'm loving this series. It just keeps getting better and better. I do wish there was a little bit more character development. I don't feel like I know many of the characters very well, not enough to care for many of them at all. But, the story really is great, and I like the MC and a few others. It's different very diffeo. your run of the mill flesh eating mindless zombies. I just wish there was a bit more of everything, action, relationships, and character development, etc. it's worth the listen for sure, though. now on to book 4.

continues to be an excellent series

Refugees (The Remaining) by D.J. Molles continues to be an excellent series.

Captain Lee Harden has fought hard and long but there is no end in sight. Working day and night to keep Camp Ryder and its occupants safe is a full-time job and his mission. Not only does he have to protect them from the zombies, but now he discovers there are different and even more deadly types of zombies out there just beyond the gates. Throw in a struggle for power within the camp and a group of religious fanatics that have idealist plans to being a new religious world, and the huge red target painted on his back – well, he just never gets a break.

His friends and colleagues are also faced with difficult decisions, responsibilities and the need to protect Harden and the camp.

The characters are well developed as is the plot. The fresh new take on the zombies is unique and exciting; with lots of battles and skirmishes of varying kinds with guns and strategies.

Molles’ definitely knows how to turn a plot twist that leaves one breathless and sputtering in shock.

The narrator, Christian Rummel does a superb job at the voices and inciting excitement when needed. He speaks clearly and his enunciation is perfect.

The audio production of this book was fine, there were zero issues.

This series gets better and better !

Where does The Remaining: Refugees rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The quality of the writing improves from book to book, and the depth of character description and motivations are real story drivers.

What other book might you compare The Remaining: Refugees to and why?

I am a real post-societal thriller fan, and this series has me hooked. The writing has improved from Book 1 in leaps and bounds and the story-line gets richer. Sometimes I have to take a break as the tension gets a bit too high and I dread to hear what happens next !

What does Christian Rummel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Believeable characterisation and good acting .

Any additional comments?

New listeners - persevere, you need to listen to the first two books to do the series justice.
also as an aside, the value in terms of listening hours and "entertainment bang for buck" increases ( look at the run times for each book ) as the series progresses.

This was the best one yet in this series.

This was the best one yet in this series. I loved the first part of book one, where it starts off in a bunker and a team of soldiers trained for the outbreak apocalypse. This one comes back to that aspect of the story, where we learn more about this team of soldiers and the plans of their leaders, all while our hero continues his efforts to build a base of survivors while the monsters are getting stronger. There’s some great surprises and no holds barred conflict that, combined with the military revelations, really amplified my interest in this series. The audiobook production by Audible Studios and Christian Rummel is top notch.
