Serviceable zombie/survival story but not a lot new

The author does a great job at keeping the momentum going, but there’s not enough character development for me to feel that invested in the story and characters. For example, the kid that Lee rescues in the beginning of the book and who had an interesting back story, is rarely mentioned after his key scene even though he’s along for the ride for the second half of the book. I enjoyed this one but definitely won’t be investing in the rest of the series.

There are also a lot of concepts borrowed from other similar books: the fast not undead zombies (28 days later), pack/herd behavior (Cell).

Wow… gritty reality... really well done

I just finished The Remaining and am in the process of downloading the second one as I write this. I was almost turned it off during the first forth of this book because of how dark the situation the main character finds himself in was and how real and impactful the violence felt.
However, I couldn't get the story out of my head and so I had to go back.
This is a really powerful story about a post apocalyptic world that is much more realistic and detail oriented then many others I've read.
If you don't mind some harsh language, and fighting and pain that is so real that you almost feel like it is happening to you, then I highly recommend that you read this book.
It was gruesomely awesome.

Entertaining. Zombie violence and F words.

This was a really good book and great narration. I don't like R rated language though. I wish there was a rating system for books to help avoid subject material and language that doesn't fit your style. But, I think I'm the last person with that style as only 2 of the last 12+ books I've listened to had decent language...so I don't see that happening. Anyways, it's a fun book with lots of FWords.

Where does The Remaining rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'd rank this one kind of in the middle.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the idea of the bunker under the house. Most of the time the survivors are heading home or at some remote base, but the idea of waiting for all hell to break out and then it happens is pretty cool.

Have you listened to any of Christian Rummel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time I've listened to his performance. He was really good. I'm going to have to listen to some of the other books in this series or new ones to get a better idea of his range.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No crying. I did laugh at a few spots. This story was very sad and depressing at times, but I didn't mist up.

Interesting premise.

Wasn’t sure what I was expecting from the story, but it was recommended by a family member. I have read a number of post-apocalyptic and listened to some as well, but this is my first experience with this author. Did not expect there to be so many books in the series, but this one has started pretty good and am interested to see where the author takes it. Love the narrator and the great voices he gives the characters.

I'd say this book held my attention pretty well.

I like this narrator. I've listened to his other narrations and enjoyed them too. That being said also enjoyed the story as well. It is well written and the plot does make sense. People want to put their own opinions in like why did he do this and that don't listen to that.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely i would and have, it's a great book and now that i'm further on in the series it just keeps getting better. It has me on the edge of my seat, it's so well written that i feel like i'm right there with the characters and start freaking out for them when they're in danger etc it's great.

What about Christian Rummel’s performance did you like?

i think the performance is fantastic, good voicing to the characters and the emotion of each pulls you into the story and makes you connect with them it's really really great.

give it a listen you won't regret it. I don't even like "zombie" type movies or tv shows but this this book i tried based on other reviews and it knocked by socks off. I finished this one 2 weeks ago and am already on book 4 because i couldn't stop listening!

Definitely worth the credit if you are into the zombie/apocalypse genre. I have had my share of duds. The characters could be better developed and it seemed like it got off to a slow start, but all in all, it is a good listen.

Where is the ending!!!!

The book just stopped like mid paragraph and then came a commercial to buy the second book to hear more...scam. Reminds me of a terrible tv show that every time something big is about to happen you have to wait till next week to find out what happens to your hero. The worst part is, i will probably will buy the second book!
