Publisher's summary

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

Emotionally connective and about wonderful people

This book was most enjoyable, with a main character if high moral and ethical character. It was easy to connect, but it did take a little while for the book to get moving. Not that it was slow early on, but it was patient and working. I loved this book, except for when it are me up for six hours one night because I could not stop listening to the intense developments within. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Can't wait for books 2 and 3 of the series...

The Host is an excellent sci-fi story. The narrator does a great job and you feel like you are right there with her and her counter-part, Melanie, throughout this story. As most of you know, Stephanie Meyer is also the author of the Twilight Saga. This story has similar concepts which give it a familiar feel, though it is more on the grown up end of the reading line.

I can't wait for the second and third installments. Hurry it up Stephanie! :-)

Interesting Point of View

The most appealing part of the book was the horror, fear and frustration implied and not graphically shown of a human soul trapped in her body driven by an alien. This allowed my imagination to fill in the rest.

A moving story brought to life by Kate.

Yet another brilliant performance of Kate Reading. A came upon this book when I browsed others by the same narrator. I had already seen the movie, and I wanted to give the book a chance. A solid book with Kate as the narrator made that movie seem very hollow in comparison.

Well Enjoyed

I enjoyed Kate's narration of The Host. It was very soothing and gave the book life. I enjoyed listening to it while I was at work and during my drive home. I look forward to enjoying books with her narration.

So good, I hated for it to end...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. I read the Twilight series and they were good, but a meant for a younger audience. I will admit that I expected a lot less than what this book delivered. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the characters. They were very complex in many ways.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I cannot say I'm a fan of her reading. I find her a little bland and monotone.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last part of the book was incredibly moving.
