Publisher's summary

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

I would recommend this book

I read the Twilight series, and thought it was OK but too filled with angst to be thought of as anything other than literary brain candy. The Host is very different (no sparkly vampires). The writing has a sort of slow momentum that drew me in. The characters are complex and well developed. I think this book could be appreciated by a diverse audience. Kate Reading is wonderful, as always.

Lovely story.

I enjoyed this very much. It was somewhat predictable, and feminine in style; meaning less technology, and more emotion. A delightful, heartfelt story. I stopped working sometimes, not to miss any action. I look forward to reading more of this author.

I could use a friend in my head sometimes.. :)

I think this book is just as good as Twighlight, and gets a bum deal because Twighlight was such a smash.. I have hundreds of audiobooks, and listen to 3-5 a week, and this is one of my all time favorites. I Think Myers is just amazing. Buy this book, you will not regret it!!!!

Pretty Good!

This one wasn't as good, in my opinion, as the Twilight series. I liked it, though. Just not as awesomely romantic as her other books. It was definitely unique and enthralling, though.

Liked it even more than Meyer’s vampire series

Unique perspective from an alien’s point of view and the host body she lives in. Two dialogues playing off of each other in a genius way. Meyer’s characters are complex yet vulnerable and you’ll fall in love with them all.

Family

I loved this book. Love & kindness can be found under the least likely situations. Family! A beautiful word.

Loved the story

Great story! I read the book a long time ago and they may be the problem. I already had an idea about how the book should come off. Let me say, the narrator, herself, was great. But I feel like her voice was too mature, breath-y and a tad more whiny that I would have preferred, personally.

Sooo good

I loved the Narrator and the story. Wanda got on my nerves sometimes but what main character doesn't. I just want to say though that Stephenie Meyer is shameless for not continuing the series. It definitely needs more. But the book itself was great. highly recommend.
