Publisher's summary

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

Lovely!

I saw the movie for this story a long time ago, and really loved it. I was very happy to stumble across this! The narrator isn't my favorite, but I was able to look past it and enjoy the story. It was a long, but fullfilling 23 hours, and it's made me appreciate the littlest things.

Great listen and intriguing story

What an interesting premise that has me rethinking how we live our lives as humans: what we value, how we treat each other and why we live the way we do.

These deep questions seem apropos for this time in the US’s history.

Already hoping there is a sequel!

Unimaginable!

This was my first "narrated" book.
At first, I was unsure, I felt like I couldn't follow what was going on. However, when the narrator said "Chapter 5," I realized I was already immersed into this story.
I listened to "The Host" for three days, while I was at work. Luckily, I was able to (physically) continue doing my job, because mentally, I was gone. I was living this story. I was there, I felt the emotion. The sadness, the anxiety, the happiness.
I'm not a big crier, but this adventure brought tears to my eyes, at least four times. The fifth time, well... I would have sobbed, had I not been afraid someone was going to walk up to me and ask what was wrong. I didn't want to even try to explain. So, I resorted to just blowing my nose a few times.
I haven't watched the movie they made about this book. I'm sure I will someday.
I knew I had to leave a review. If one person is moved by this book as much as I was, then my time was well spent, writing this review.
This story... No... this incredible, unimaginable, perfect adventure will be forever etched into my memory. It is now, without question, the best book I have ever "read," and I have read a ton of books.
The narrator was amazing. Stephenie Meyer, thank you. Thank you for creating this masterpiece for me to enjoy.

Loved it!

I’m a fan of the Twilight series but I like The Host even more. Fantastic story! I hope Stephanie will someday write a sequel. Kate Reading did a phenomenal job narrating as well.

The first time I have found myself rooting for the alien!
The entire book was amazing. I found no slow or unconnected thoughts, actions, or dialogue.

Narrator is great

If you're looking for it to pull you in like Twilight did, it won't. The book is good, but it's a little slow to get going. Stick with it because the end is worth it.
