Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark. Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot. But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life.

Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

This saga dares to ask a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails?

Just wow

I read this book a few years ago, but decided to re-read it through audible. Mainly because I had just finished Brandon Sanderson's Oathbringer and saw that this book was read by Michael Kramer as well, this was a pure joy to listen to and cements Brandon Sanderson as my favorite author and Michael Kramer as my favorite audible narrator

Great start to an even better series

The Final Empire is a pretty good book on it's own. Well written. Wonderfully well narrated.

Just don't stop with book 1. Keep going. The series goes from Great to Amazing to There Are No Words to Describe How Much I Love This Series.

Fantastic Narration!

This is probably the best audiobook I have listened of all my audible books so far. The book has great characters and the plot is unique. I think some of the writing is a bit repetitive, but you hardly notice because of the outstanding narration. I could rate JUST the narrator, I would say he gets 10 out of 5 stars. He changes accents for different characters and he is incredibly consistent. When characters are tired, he sounds tired, when they are excited, he is animated. His voice inflection is top notch and I genuinely enjoyed every second. I plan on buying all the books he narrates just to experience it again.

Starts slow but gets much better

Narriator is a bit dull but good story overall. His voices, while not terribly exciting, do stay consistant

A story from the world ruled by evil.

What did you love best about The Final Empire?

The story and character development. How life like each and every person felt brought life to the world around it, even some of the more bit characters held features that one could remember, could relate too, could call back too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Final Empire?

The hard choices characters needed to make to see their goals through too the end. Without giving away too much, it shows how ones person can change by the company they may keep, choices they choose to make, and the world they live in.

Which scene was your favorite?

The warehouse scene with a letter left for the crew to find near the end of one of their jobs.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, yes it was. I had a hard time stretching this out over the course of a few weeks and I was lucky it lasted as long as it did! Had I had the time between work or longer commutes it would not have lasted nearly as long.

Any additional comments?

This story, with the right mind set, can be an emotional roller coaster that can also be a bit enlightening with some of the stances that can be taken on how one sees themselves and how they can change that. All in all, it was one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of listening too.
