Critic reviews

"Dan Simmons was a star from the outset. It was the Hyperion books that made him a superstar. The man, quite simply, is what we in the trade call a writer's writer." (Mike Resnick, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author)
"State of the art science fiction...A landmark novel." (Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine)

great book

if you liked the first, I thin this one is even better. it fills in the mystery behind the first as well as creating the danger and excitement.

Not the strongest beginning, but be patient

Patience is very much reworded, after a slow, kind of weak start, the story really picks up. awesome world building and a cool sequel to the excellent Hyperion

So impressed.

This is more fantasy than scify, but he works in explanations when he can and be story and characters are well developed and meaningful. I actually wanted to read a little poetry after finishing this (interesting, because references to classic literature or poetry in novels usually makes me roll my eyes). Simmons doesn't include his references to beat his literary chest, they're actually useful and important components of the work. Story lines are properly concluded or properly left hanging. One of the few works that I truly wouldn't want to change.

Just as good as the first

After reading the first book I had been drawn to learning more about the characters. I went into the book believing one thing would happen and was pleasantly surprised when it went no where to how I expected it. Excellent character development and does well at building suspense.

Great story, Great performance!

I'm not a literary critic, but the story was great and was a smooth continuation from the first book. Victor Bevine was stellar. The three star performance rating is not because Victor deserved a three star, he gets a five star from me. I just missed the other narrators, the voices of Brawne Lamia and Martin Silenus and others. I was a bit disappointed it wasn't produced the way book 1 was.
