Very well done for a Star Wars audiobook. Even though it is abridged, the 6 hour run-time leaves enough material to make this audiobook entertaining. That said, you can still notice gaps where, I assume, material was cut out for the abridgement. This can be annoying after a while. I won't beat around the bush, I loathe any abridgement and I would encourage people to complain to the publisher so that they will begin releasing unabridged versions of these books. Other than that, this book was excellent. Marc Thompson is one of the most talented narrators that I have heard. It is a pleasure to listen to him. The different character voices that he assumes throughout the book are executed flawlessly and I had to keep reminding myself that it was the same person speaking. The writing, sound production, and music were all top notch. I would give this 5 stars if not for the abridgement.
One last thing, stay away from any of the star wars audiobooks that are less than 6 hours in length. They are so butchered by the abridgements, that they are not worth your time or money. Quite a few of these are narrated by Anthony Heald and he is just plain awful. I found this out the hard way. Just remember, Anthony Heald = extremely poor narration. Jonathan Davis = Extremely good narration. Marc Thompson = Outstanding narration.
This is the 5th book in this story line, it is more story than action and the action in good just not great. But between Jason and -Fet they more than carry this book.
The LOF series is a fantastic one to begin with. The narrator does a fantastic job of pulling you in. Sacrifice is the best out of the series, with and ending that will make you immediately want to hear the next tape in the series.
I haven't read the print version so I can't compare them.
I am an avid Star Wars reader & Karen Travis books in & out the Star Wars series, she wrote gears of war and Halo books.
I have been listening to the entire series & thus far this book holds the lead of all 7.
Definitely. I can get my daily work done while listening to the book!
Story line & narrator. Marc Thompson is incredible with his voices!
It made me want more.
One of the best, definitely justs sucks you in... Curious to know how much I missed though as far as it being abridged... All in all, a must listen for all Star Wars Fans!!
Great story and the narrator Marc Tompson is fantastic. These abridged versions however are a huge disappointment. I will finish the rest of this story but will no longer give up my credits or purchase any more of these abridged versions ever again. It sucks that the producers and random house audio have created so many abridged books.. They are a huge let down. I feel some what ripped off. I have some titles that are 40+ hours of content and cost 1 credit. These are barely 6 hrs and are so chopped up as to take more away they give.
Abridgement is a ripoff
I've been a huge Star Wars fan since I was kid and saw the original movie for a friend's birthday party on May 29, 1977, but I don't think I'll be buying any more SW books...
A) The abridged versions are terrible. A big part of the SW universe is the description, most of which is cut out in the abridgement.
2) The current and future books are all in nine-or-ten part series. It seems like the authors and publishers are just stringing the readers along... A single story from beginning to end costs well over $100.
WHY do you not tell anyone that your going after someone; and keep it a secret with so much riding on the outcome... maybe if you told someone you could get help or they would know about the problem and they could do something about it if you didnt return... other than this flaw it was a good book. Again, people are not that stupid to comfront a dangerous task without at least backup or a letter to tell them what to do if failure should occur. Dumb actions make a story poorly written and seems like the writer did not take the time (aka lazy) to give a better explanation. I could go further on how unplausable this action is but I'll stop now. Hopefully, the writer wont make more unforgiving mistakes.
