Publisher's Summary

Following a trail of clues across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker continues his quest to find the reasons behind Jacen Solo's dark downfall and to win redemption for the Jedi Order. Sojourning among the mysterious Aing-Tii monks has left Luke and his son Ben with no real answers, only the suspicion that the revelations they seek lie in the forbidden reaches of the distant Maw Cluster. There, hidden from the galaxy in a labyrinth of black holes, dwell the Mind Walkers: those whose power to transcend their bodies and be one with the Force is as seductive and intoxicating as it is potentially fatal. But it may be Luke's only path to the truth.

Meanwhile, on Coruscant, the war of wills between Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala and the Jedi Order is escalating. Outraged over the carbonite freezing of young Jedi Knights Valin and Jysella Horn after their inexplicable mental breakdowns, the Jedi are determined to defy Daala's martial tactics, override Council Master Kenth Hamner's wavering leadership, and deal on their own terms with the epidemic of madness preying on their ranks. As Han and Leia Solo, along with their daughter Jaina, join the fight to protect more stricken Knights from arrest, Jedi healers race to find a cure for the rapidly spreading affliction. But none of them realize the blaster barrel is already swinging in their direction and Chief Daala is about to pull the trigger.

Nor do Luke and Ben, deep in the Maw Cluster and pushing their Force abilities beyond known limits, realize how close they are to the Sith strike squad bent on exterminating the Skywalkers, to a nexus of dark-side energy unprecedented in its power and its hunger, and to an explosive confrontation between opposing wielders of the Force from which only one Master, good or evil, can emerge alive.

    "Good Story Good Author"

i feel like there getting back on track with SW books. the last series was not in depth enough and felt like a cheap pocket book. but i thought this author who writes allot of SW books pulled it back in line in this novel. this series has a little direction now. and im glad they are offering SW books unabridged now.

    "Creepy goodness!"

This one takes a turn from the first two and has a very dark, creepy feeling to it--which works! It's a nice change of pace and gives the story new depth. And the haunting music is really outstanding!

I definitely felt the "hungry purple tentacles" runing up my spine!

Once again, Marc Thompson does a tremendous job narrating. This is not a series to miss!

    "Good book, Good series..."

I am really liking this series of books and this is another gem. Reading some of the older books were pretty hit or miss but I think they have the proven authors working on some very good plots now. The only problem I had with this audio was in the second file, at one hour and twenty-nine minutes in (format 4 I believe). The audio skipped and I missed a little bit of the action, I do not think it was very much but that still disappointed me a little bit.

    "Awesome narration"

Marc Thompson is THE single best narrator for Star Wars I have ever heard. His characters are so believable and recognizable. Amazing series and can't wait for the next one.

"Enjoying the series, and this one keeps on rolling"

Book 3 follows well from books 1 and 2, and I'm enjoying most of the different plot lines. I will say that Luke and Ben Skywalker's adventure in the Maw was a little difficult to follow via the audio version, but it basically makes sense.

    "I love this series!"
If you could sum up Star Wars in three words, what would they be?

    Best thing ever!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Jaina Solo in these books.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I can't believe how enjoyable it's made the books. I like hearing the different voices and sound effects. Lightsaber fights!!! I'm new to audio books and now I'm addicted, I like listening to it before falling asleep. The Audible app is great for that too.

    Any additional comments?

I am really enjoying this series, it's keeping me interested. I love how it's presenting a whole lot of familiar characters from the past. I can't get enough of these books.

    "When I grow up..."

I want to be a Jedi like Luke. Heck, even like Ben. This was a great book. I listened in my car as I drove to work and school. Found myself taking the long routes so I can stay in my car longer. Going to listen again on a plane ride across America now.

    "Character voicings annoying"

I've had as much as I can take. The reading of this story with the various character voices has finally worn me down. I should have stopped at Omen but I was so interested in the story that I didn't want to wait to receive the hardback book. For my impatience I was punished. The character voicings are so bloody annoying that it detracts from a good story. Please make it stop! Back to the old fashioned way of reading. Perhaps it is for the best.

    "Loved it!"

I loved every minute of this book. I enjoyed the first book in the series (Outcast) but was deeply disappointed in the second (Omen) however Abyss is by far the best yet in the Fate of the Jedi series. Luke and Ben were written to perfection and their story was my favourite part of the book. We also get to see more depth to Han, Leia, Allana, Jag and Jaina. The story with the Sith had some great character development and it was great to see so much from their perspective and at last we see the backstabbing and treachery that we expect from Sith. Also we get a sinister introduction to a very old and dark enemy that seems to be the key to the entire series. As usual the audio quality and read are superb. I whole heartily recommend this book and hope that the rest of the series can maintain this level of excitement and character development.

    "Fate of the Jedi: Abyss"

I have so far really enjoyed the whole Fate of the Jedi series.
I thought Outcast was better than Omen, but if you enjoyed either of the previous you will certainly like Abyss - especially the Luke & Ben Skywalker story thread.
It's really gripping and great fun!
