Publisher's summary

Following a trail of clues across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker continues his quest to find the reasons behind Jacen Solo’s dark downfall and to win redemption for the Jedi Order. Sojourning among the mysterious Aing-Tii monks has left Luke and his son Ben with no real answers, only the suspicion that the revelations they seek lie in the forbidden reaches of the distant Maw Cluster. There, hidden from the galaxy in a labyrinth of black holes, dwell the Mind Walkers: Those whose power to transcend their bodies and be one with the Force is as seductive and intoxicating as it is potentially fatal. But it may be Luke’s only path to the truth.

Meanwhile, on Coruscant, the war of wills between Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala and the Jedi Order is escalating. Outraged over the carbonite freezing of young Jedi Knights Valin and Jysella Horn after their inexplicable mental breakdowns, the Jedi are determined to defy Daala’s martial tactics, override Council Master Kenth Hamner’s wavering leadership, and deal on their own terms with the epidemic of madness preying on their ranks. As Han and Leia Solo, along with their daughter Jaina, join the fight to protect more stricken Knights from arrest, Jedi healers race to find a cure for the rapidly spreading affliction. But none of them realize the blaster barrel is already swinging in their direction–and Chief Daala is about to pull the trigger.

Nor do Luke and Ben, deep in the Maw Cluster and pushing their Force abilities beyond known limits, realize how close they are - to the Sith strike squad bent on exterminating the Skywalkers, to a nexus of dark-side energy unprecedented in its power and its hunger, and to an explosive confrontation between opposing wielders of the Force from which only one Master - good or evil - can emerge alive.

great books

I still prefer these non cannon books to pretty much everything new. sad that these are the last books created before Disney pooped all over everything.
this is a story line worthy of the Solos and Skywalker's.

Absolutely riveting!

Amazing. Marc Thompson does a fantastic job, as always. Troy Denning is a great author and he works well with the other two authors writing this series. I definitely recommend The Fate of the Jedi series and Abyss in particular!!

Slow start took a bit to get going. Ended brilliantly.

For whatever reason it took me quite some time to get fully immersed and engaged in the story (unlike the first two books). I felt like it was progressing and was too stagnant for the first half or more of the story.

However, huge story progression in the back half. Excited for the next one.

Good book, Good series...

I am really liking this series of books and this is another gem. Reading some of the older books were pretty hit or miss but I think they have the proven authors working on some very good plots now. The only problem I had with this audio was in the second file, at one hour and twenty-nine minutes in (format 4 I believe). The audio skipped and I missed a little bit of the action, I do not think it was very much but that still disappointed me a little bit.

Compelling themes

Growing up, I heard stories of people back in the 60s who would join weird cults or do tons of psychedelics in a never ending quest of inner discovery, only to come out of it as a bad version of themselves. I wonder if the authors of this book series, and so may dark sci-fi or fantasy books in general, had similar experiences. Well written, with an excellent theme.

H.P. Lovecraft approved

really good storyline I love that Abaloth is written in the Cthulhu style old god. Abaloths prison reminds me of R'yla the prison in the Deep ocean that holds Cthulhu. Abaloth's tentacles reaching out just like cthulhu's from prison to influence the week-minded. her words as his machinations tormenting threatening and letting us know that an ancient Terror still lurks. even the guides and the barely animated bodies of the meditating ones remind me very much of the Minions that worship these old gods that promise things like immortality and Power. even so much is the fonts being just like those that preserve the Mind flayer himself. Cthulhu being even a Lesser God is one of my favorites from HP Lovecraft. the Entity that gave birth to Cthulhu reminds me of the G'nall-G'nall there is also the god of cannibalism who turns his worshipers into rat like minions who devour Corpses.

Good Story Good Author

i feel like there getting back on track with SW books. the last series was not in depth enough and felt like a cheap pocket book. but i thought this author who writes allot of SW books pulled it back in line in this novel. this series has a little direction now. and im glad they are offering SW books unabridged now.
