Publisher's summary

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day.…

Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it’s something awful.

He doesn’t know the half of it.…

Mab has just traded Harry's skills to pay off one of her debts. And now he must help a group of supernatural villains - led by one of Harry's most dreaded and despised enemies, Nicodemus Archleone - to break into the highest-security vault in town, so that they can then access the highest-security vault in the Nevernever.

It's a smash-and-grab job to recover the literal Holy Grail from the vaults of the greatest treasure hoard in the supernatural world - which belongs to the one and only Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld and generally unpleasant character. Worse, Dresden suspects that there is another game afoot that no one is talking about. And he's dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Especially Harry.

Dresden's always been tricky, but he's going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess - assuming his own allies don’t end up killing him before his enemies get the chance.…

Best one yet

I found myself completely lost in the story and unable to put it down. I can't say enough good things about this one. Great book and a perfect performance by the narrator. Bravo.

Harry Dresden won't let you down

The Dresden Files aren't Shakespeare. They are good old fashioned entertainment about a modern day wizard for hire in a world going from bad to hell on earth. The story is always good, always has a few plot twists that you thought you had pegged but probably didn't.

James Marsters is, for me, the absolute lynch pin to these books. His performance is always on point and I feel that his being the narrator is ironic as you will enjoy the Dresden files the same way that years ago I enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It isn't always the best but the characters are 100% scooby gang and you learn to love them.

A Spectacular Caper

Where does Skin Game rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's why I came to Audible in the first place

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I was distraught when Marsters failed to read one in the series. It was a huge disappointment, quickly fixed.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but no spoilers here. (I did cry.)

Any additional comments?

After 15 books, I am ready for deeper growth between the characters relationships. The way choices made in the earlier books have influenced events in later books in unexpected ways, and layered meanings and relationships people give to interactions and events over time are explored in this series is such a joy to wade through. For each crisis brings with it the promise of its undoing, and the seeds of the next. All of which would be frightfully pretentious if the characters did not quote movie lines, science fiction quips and homages to the best fantasy writers of our time at every opportunity. (Just to make the dorks in the room squeee with glee).

Excellent Installment, Excellent Reader

I have listened to the entire series of Dresden Files books over the course of maybe two months. In that time I have fallen in love with Butcher's characters, and Skin Game brings many of the players from early books back and incorporates them very well. James Marsters is a fantastic vocal performer, and his reading in this title did not disappoint in any!

Great continuation to a great series

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

He makes the characters come to life. His portrayal of these voices are the same as what I had in my head when I started reading it.
