Unimaginative ending

Would you try another book from J. L. Bourne and/or Jay Snyder?

Probably not, this was my third book from Bourne that I have read.

What could J. L. Bourne have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

He could have thought up a better more imaginative ending. It seemed as though Bourne had his deadline and quickly finished the story without the depth of the beginning. It was quite bothersome when the author hinted that an upcoming piece of information was going to be earth shattering and then the reader finds out that it is simply that aliens landed at Roswell, NM.

Which scene was your favorite?

When deep six gets nuked.

Could you see Shattered Hourglass being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes it could be a movie. A haven't a clue about the actors.

Where did the 1st person perspective go?

This long awaited conclusion to an outstanding three book series was almost as bad as the long wait. The release date of this book was pushed back and pushed back and the way the book wraps up seems very rushed. A fourth book for the series would have satisfied the unexpected change from Kill's 1st person perspective that was so endearing in the two previous installments. It takes time to adjust to the new style of writing and it becomes overly techinical at times like the Morningstar series which this series has never done before. I enjoyed the book but hoped for so much more and didn't like the changes or the feel that this book delivered. Unlike the movies ussually book sequels are as good if not better as the reader comes closer to the characters over the life span of a series. This culmination of the series doesn't deliver that content and fullfilled feeling even though it wraps up much of the storyline. Let's hope there is a 3.5 or a fourth book with an expanded companion more detailed and extended version of the events in the last 20-30 minutes of this reading.

Jay Snyder does his best with the text he was presented but the readers ability to identify with Kill seems secondary to the bombardment of all the extra storylines that are introduced in this ramshackled installment of Day by Day. Hence where is the Day by Day complete diary of Killroy that carries the story to a new and more detailed emotional experience that he so desperately deserved.

Would I buy this book again? Yes, with the warning that one should be prepared for a different experince than they had in the first two books where this one left me feeling less than.

What happened to the development of the story?

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I loved the first two books but when the book storyline switched from location to location it didn't tell you and unless you were following really close and it was easy to get lost. If you have read Jonathan Maberry he starts each area with a location and time stamp I don't know whom taught him this but my god is it helpful.

I'm glad the story is over but disappointed on the development of the characters that I cared about and how it ended. Now I know the writer was deployed overseas and with that I am going to say thank you for your service. Beating the horse would not be polite and overall very rude.

What could J. L. Bourne have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Understanding in the end its the vision of the writer and not my own that keeps me grounded. I am just along for the ride, no one forced me to get into the car and say just drive. There was too much time between books and I feel he lost that spark and this book was a job to get done. You can feel the lack of thought and operation in the chapters of the book.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The reading of the book became flat at the end. I was a tough read for the narrator.

Did Shattered Hourglass inspire you to do anything?

No I'm happy the storyline is over.

Any additional comments?

If you want FUN get Jonathan Maberry and start at patient zero.

Why the change of format?

Any additional comments?

I liked the single perspective of the previous books. The sudden change to multiple ones made it seem just like any other zombie book out there currently.

More Greatness from Mr. Bourne

Have an open mind here. Yes, we all love ZomPoc books but because Bourne switched from first person to third person with this novel and offers a different origin story than most of the "a virus escaped from a lab" dogma, some of the reviewers dinged him for this book. I loved it as a fresh take on the flesh-eaters.

loved the Spec OP bits

The Task Forces in this made the book for me. Anyone else get serious "Predator" vibes from Billy?

Pretty good

I have two complaints about this book.

1. The author suddenly forgot how to write tenses and point of views. He was suddenly switching from first person to third person to second person all within one conversation and it often times became rather cumbersome and confusing.

2. The ending. It was too rushed. With all the other ventures into zombie ridden territory, their final trip into China felt rather, lackluster and rushed. More could have been done to continue the horror.

That's all I really had to complain about. I liked the book otherwise.

Listened to this series about 4 years back. Even better the second time around. Hope the series will go on some how past book 4
