Publisher's summary

Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She's never known any others of her kind. Until now.

An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River - one that her father's people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help....

Have Mercy! Listen to another Mercy Thompson chiller.

Critic reviews

"An outstanding urban fantasy novel with some well-loved and well-traveled characters...The way [Briggs] writes about all of the different fictional supernatural creatures is fascinating and keeps you on your toes.” (Examiner.com)

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Weaker than the earlier books in the series

Would you try another book from Patricia Briggs and/or Lorelei King?

I loved the first four books in this series. I liked the fifth one. This one was definitely the weakest of the bunch. As for the narrator, I always love listening to Lorelei King. She does a terrific job.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect is the love story between Adam and Mercy. I love an Alpha Male! The least interesting aspect is the lack of the rest of the characters in the story. We don't get to spend anytime with the rest of the cast!

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the wedding - it was perfect.

Do you think River Marked needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

We definitely need a follow-up book to see what is happening with Mercy and Adam - I think we may have a surprize bundle coming!

I can't get enough!!!

I absolutely, 100% LOVE the Mercy Thompson series, and the characters introduced in this book were fantastic!! I loved getting to see a little bit more of Mercy's back story, I love the complexity of the characters and the complexity of the action and mystery. These books are exciting, romantic, adventurous, dangerous, interesting, clever and fun-I became so immersed in these books that while reading them I was constantly looking forward to getting in my car to hear more! This series has definitely got me hooked on Patricia Briggs! Also check out her Cry Wolf duo of books, which deals with the same family of characters. GREAT SERIES!!!

Not my favorite, but still a great book

Out of all of them up to this point, this has been my least favorite. I am not sure why, but it didn't seem to flow as easily. Maybe because the "support cast" didn't appear much in this book. It was still enjoyable and I will be starting the next book today.

Who Knew A Monster Lurked Beneath the Columbia!

If you could sum up River Marked in three words, what would they be?

Riveting, Believable, Sad

What other book might you compare River Marked to and why?

Might compare to Twilight but only because of the werewolves and vampires. Both make the 'beasts' loveable and normal. I wish I could change into a coyote.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Coyote calls her out to the river and he tells her about her father and the 'ghost' dancing for her. I loved the way Ms. King gave his voice such reverence and coyness. He was a believable Native American in my opinion. Wish it could be a true story! I do believe that there is more around us than we can see.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked the moment when Mercy discovers the truth about her father and that Coyote is he even if he was in a human form 'just a Joe.'

Any additional comments?

I just loved all the books and can't wait for Book #7 due in March 2013. A great read. I have most in both Kindle and Audible formats.

Get the book

Another really good Mercy Thompson book. Lorelei King is such a good narrator that she makes the story even better. Start with the first book though! The stories are all interconnected.

More Walkers!

My daughter Lily and I finished listening to this audiobook, which was narrated by Lorelei King. (Actually all of the series has been narrated by Lorelei King). We really enjoyed this book. I think of all the books in this series we liked this one best.

In this story, Mercy and Adam are out camping by a river. The river has some weird things going on that Mercy and Adam are drawn into. Mercy gets to find out more of her background and meet other walkers. The story is heaped full of Native American Indian legends and tales and I think I liked that the most.
