A good mystery

Any additional comments?

This is Jasper’s story, a young man who becomes a retired magician’s assistant, set in the small town and farming suburbs of a small town. There are some magic and creature scenes but mostly it’s a pretty good mystery with murders to solve. They use mostly detective logic and it is well done.Good characters, kept me guessing, and a good ending. We don't need a sequel to finish the story but another would be welcome.

Excellent narration saves mediocre crime novel

Seen in isolation as a crime novel or a fantasy novel, there isn't much to be overly impressed about. However excellent narration makes the characters come to life, and that made the book well worth my time.
