Nice start

I really enjoyed this book, I didn’t love it but I enjoyed it. It was a nice easy listen. I liked Mercy aka Mercedes Thompson, the heroine in this book. She wasn’t over the top bad ass but was confident enough in herself, knowing that she’s not a wimp but strong. There was werewolves, fae and vampires all introduced in this book.

Mercy is a coyote or walker, which is almost an extinct species. She’s also a car mechanic. She was raised by wolves (werewolves), the most prominent pack in the U.S. at that. We are able to learn a little about her background and especially her relationship with Sam.
Adam is very intriguing. He is the Alpha of the local wolf pack. There is definitely some serious sparks flying between those two and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
There wasn’t much different from the typical UF books. Conflict, fighting, mystery, murder, possible love interest and conflict resolved with a little left open for the future.
The narrator did a great job, no complaints there.

Promising start

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm also excited because this is the first book that kicks off a series which looks very promising indeed. The writing style is very fluid with no dead time or redundant plot. I felt "swept up" in the magical world Briggs had created. I really liked the characters, especially are lead protagonist who is a well-written, fleshed out character that helps redeem all the crappy, whiney female leads we have dealt with through the ages (Anita Blake) and in particular the fantasy genre. She is strong and ASSERTIVE, not aggressive and there is a BIG difference between the two. The book is also quite humorous and quirky. Definitely worth the credit and maybe even a purchase. We'll see if I can wait for my next credit.

loved it so much, i bought the rest of the series

I fell in love with Mercy as she journeyed through this adventure. Her confidence, her relationships with others, her quiet pain at inflicting harm to others all convinced me that I needed to get to know this woman. The story draws you in and gently introduces you to the world that could be ours... actually, i like it quite a bit more than ours. I've listened to this book half a dozen times and it will remain one of my goto, feel good, comfort stories.

Interesting premise, definitely a mystery.

I’m listening to all the werewolf first and in no specific order. This book seemed to be written to clarify Mercy’s first juvenile love, now entering her life again, as a friend and hero/protagonist. Racing to save Adam’s life, Mercy drives him, unconscious, an unnecessary six hours in a pickup, while a very few of Adam’s remaining pack, (I think most had gone home for Thanksgiving), search for a kidnapped Jesse. If that sounds confusing, it’s just the beginning.

Love the story line

Love the story line and characters, even though for some reason I can’t pin point, I believe there is room to give them a more in depth build of character separately. Also loved the performance. Only thing that was a bit heavy and unnecessary to me was so much brand or name dropping of guns and cars. So repetitive and seems like just a need to show off lists of types of guns... personally. Not that i interested, don’t think it gives any credence to the story or helps build it up in any way shape or form. So the feeling is: “ ok... we get the picture, now move on with the story”.
