Editorial reviews

Why we think it's Essential - Quick, who directed The Evil Dead? What action hero starred in The Blob? Which movie studio became synonymous with horror for producing Frankenstein and The Wolf Man? If you can answer these questions correctly, you'll likely be thrilled with Monster Hunter International. B-movie aficionados know there's a fine line between gleefully gory camp and flat-out dross. Not to worry, Monster Hunter International knows the line. Oliver Wyman brings just the right amount of bombastic, smirking swagger to this story of big guns, big action, and a heck of a lot of monsters. —Michael

Publisher's summary

Five days after Owen Zastava Pitt pushed his insufferable boss out of a 14th story window, he woke up in the hospital with a scarred face, an unbelievable memory, and a job offer.

It turns out that monsters are real. All the things from myth, legend, and B-movies are out there, waiting in the shadows. Officially secret, some of them are evil, and some are just hungry. On the other side are the people who kill monsters for a living. Monster Hunter International is the premier eradication company in the business. And now Owen is their newest recruit.

It's actually a pretty sweet gig, except for one little problem. An ancient entity known as the Cursed One has returned to settle a centuries-old vendetta. Should the Cursed One succeed, it means the end of the world, and MHI is the only thing standing in his way.

With the clock ticking towards Armageddon, Owen finds himself trapped between legions of undead minions, belligerent federal agents, a cryptic ghost who has taken up residence inside his head, and the cursed family of the woman he loves. Business is good.... Welcome to Monster Hunter International.

Good story, good narration.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I searched for awhile trying to find a series that would be entertaining. Cant wait to listen to the remaining books. I couldn't put it down until the book was finished.

Very Entertaining Audiobook

It was one of the better audiobooks that I've purchased. The action novel was well written and entertaining, and the voice actor was top notch. A+ production.

Good Story But....

I liked the story, but it was a bit too violent and dark for my taste, a bit too demonic. The interpersonal interactions were good, but I just can't get past the demonic bad guys. But if demonic violence is your cup of tea, you'll love this book.

Duck dynasty thinks they are seal team lol

Hard to listen to. Main character's voice doesn't seem to fit him. Main character seems like a slow guy that the author periodically ties to make sound like a genius and fails. MHI acts like a bunch of inbred rednecks rather than the well oiled monster killing badass group that they are obviously supposed to be. Some parts of the book were down right infuriating to listen to.

Wasn't all bad just mostly. Still got into a few parts.

Solid book, excellent performance.

Wouldn't say that this is a book where the plot will surprise you, but the characters are well written and likable and the action is fun. I recommend it to fans of the dresden files waiting on Peace Talks in particular.

Lots of great creatures and action!

Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia and narrated by Oliver Wyman is a great book in the series. Plenty of action, adventure, interesting characters, monster fighting, monsters on the team to battle evil, humor, a small touch of romance, and a great plot that kept things crazy fun! I really enjoyed the various creatures and characters!!
The narration was spot on with emotions and the variety of voices! Great job!

My New Action Hero

I didn't really expect much from this book, I just wanted something that promised to be a little different. Wow!...was I surprised. I got wrapped up in the characters and the action and I often found myself laughing out loud.
"Monster Hunter" is my new: Die Hard" and Owen Pitt is my new John McClane. I love action movies and now I have an action audiobook. I like the building of the characters and their stories. I sometimes found the descriptions of the blood and gore to be a little much but it is to be expected when fighting monsters.
I find Owen to be a down to earth, (every day type of man) hero. He is a young man who is learning and is very unsure of himself. However with the help of his friends he manages the situations that arise.
The stories of the "monster hunters" and the trainees add to round out the stories and backgrounds of the book,
If you like "Die Hard" type of action with a touch of humor in a book, Monster Hunter, International makes a good read for you.
